So, for three years at my high school, I’ve been taking Latin. I could continue to take Latin in college, but I feel like it wouldn’t be an employable asset when I’ll be applying for jobs. One of the reasons I took Latin in high school was because it was different from commonly spoken languages like Spanish and French. I’m going to be an English major and I need things that will strengthen my chances of landing a good job. If not Latin, should I take something that might look more impressive?
I have been reading a little bit about Latin recently and my understanding (though I am not an expert) is that there is a shortage of Latin teachers, so if you were actually good enough in Latin to be able to teach it, it might be a good side line.
Is there a particular language that you are interested in studying? Is there a language at the school you will be attending that is especially strong for that school? Also, is there a place that you would like to go for a semester or year abroad that would require or where it would be useful to have a specific language?
