So basically, this is my situation. I just started my third semester at Mesa Community College, I have a 3.69 GPA, and I am a Phi Theta Kappa member (although I am not active at the moment ). I started school very motivated, ambitious, and optimistic, but for some reason this semester, I seem to have no motivation to even go to class.
So, have any of you ever felt anxious, stressed out, or simply just lost your sense of direction in school and can spare a few words about your experience? At the moment, I am strongly considering taking this semester off, but would prefer to hear what others who have been in this situation before have to say about it.
It sounds like you’re doing well academically and are involved outside the classroom. You may just be hitting a rough patch. I would advise talking to a counselor/adviser to see what they have to say/what your options are. Aside from your academic adviser, I bet your school offers free or reduced cost counseling/therapy to help you talk out how you’re feeling. The semester has just started and I feel like dropping out now might be a little extreme, but then again it would be better to do it before your grades start to suffer. However, I’d still advise talking to people at your school to try to get at the root of the problem.
I think you’re not enjoying yourself in college. Find something that you like to do, that doesn’t relate to school.
Ask you’re self why were you motivated when you first started school and what has changed now.
I had graduated recently out of high school, but started to get depressed when I found out that I had to go to go a community college in my town. The thing was I already had really good grades to get into a good university, and I was accepted into one, but nor me or my family could afford it. So to keep myself motivated I decided to take some classes at my community college, but also get a certification for a CNA so that I can have a good paying job whole in my community college and when I transfer to the university I want to go to. When I had took a step back and realize I could do this, I thought to myself "at least I would not rack up in dept like my other friends at a Uni.’’ You just need to find the spark that made you want to work hard in the first place.
Also if you take a summer off you may not go back to school or you can possibly forget what it is like to be in a classroom. My friends are taking a semester out of school too, but I can tell that one of them isn’t going even go back. And the other, well I’m not sure about him,but I have a feeling he may not go back either. Stay in school
