At my school we have one class, AP English, which prepares you for both the Lit and Lang/Comp exams. From what I hear, it's a good class, but A LOT of work. I'm a junior right now and next year is obviously my senior year. I took a killer schedule this year and I want to take it a little easier next year.

My question is, will I be able to do well in a college English class without taking AP English?

If I don't take AP English I will be taking two semester classes called Honors Lit Crit and Honors Philosophy of Lit. They are weighted English classes, but you don't really learn anything useful in them.

I'm not a big fan of english either, but I did take both AP Eng Lang and AP Lit. I didn't learn much in AP Eng Lang, but that might be due to a poor teacher. However, I did find AP Lit to be an amazing class, and I certainly have learned a lot from it. It is also the most enjoyable class of my schedule

I say go for it. Colleges focus on your senior year first semester so I would take it... and then if its alot of work, get rid of it your 2nd semester...

I think I'm going to take it, guys. I've thought a lot about it and I think it will be a useful class. I'm not taking too hard of a load next year, so AP English will fit in nicely. Thanks to those who answered.

The AP english tests arent bad as long as you dont hate english, if you can write well itll help. The lang test is more focused on analysis of passages and then writing papers on a quote or topic, while the lit test includes a lot on poetry and all the essays are analytical. I loved both classes, and I think I did pretty well on both tests.

I absolutely hate English. It's the most disgusting, convoluted, ill-concieved and evil language I've ever learned (I learned about 4). The people who thought it up should burn in hell FOR ETERNITY. That's including, ESPECIALLY, Shakespeare, who is the grand daddy of Satan himself.

That being said, I'm going to take AP English. Many of the colleges I'm aiming toward have required freshman English classes that I can use the AP credits toward, and I'd rather take it with 20 friends and a teacher that knows me well than a grad student-teacher in a room with 100 people.

If you are good at English, you should take it. it relly is not that bad at all and the exams are not bad. If you get a five you can get out of college english and even if you do not you will be really prepared for it. Of course all of this depends on the teacher...
