should i take AP Spanish test??

Hi

I am taking AP Spanish Language this year, but I feel like
I am not prepared for the exam in May. Our teacher doesn't teach
us anything, and many of my friends are planning not to take the exam.
What should I do? Should I take Spanish exam? Some told me that
it looks bad to take the AP class and not take the exam.
How hard is this exam? Although I heard it has been changed this year,
I wonder how other people did in the past.
Is it possible to start self-studying for the exam since I dont think
he is gonna help us prepare for the exam in second semester either =(
Thanks for any advice !

im in the same situation...my teacher just doesnt teach us, shes such a ditz.

idk ill probably take it, it doesnt really matter cuz im a senior and no one will see it if i dont want them to haha.

How many years of Spanish have each of you had? On another thread, one person reported they did well with three years.

At my daughter's school, AP Spanish covers both Language and Lit. She dropped it after a couple of weeks since she was the only non-native speaker. So she is self-studying for the language exam using the Collegeboard AP publication and a prep book that includes a couple of CDs. The listening portion will be her biggest concern since she isn't exposed to the oral language on a day to day basis.

this is my fourth year. i took spanish I, II, III and skipped IV to be in AP my senior year.

ive done really well in all my spanish classes but i still dont really feel prepared. oh well

its my fourth year too
yeah ive got all As but still i dont think i am prepared
i dont understand when someone is speaking really fast
so i am screwed with listening section lol

yeah its really hard for me to understand when the speaking is really fast. also im gonna suck at the speaking part haha. we dont talk in spanish in class usually...which is kinda wierd haha.

wow guess i am not the only one
i have taken spanish for four years as well
but since last year.. stuck with the same teacher
he barely taught us anything... and he is like the ony one
who teaches AP Spanish... and same here..
no one in our class speaks spanish.. so our speaking skills are kinda sad haha

I am sorry to hear that you have such a terrible teacher. My suggestion to you is that if you would like to take the exam, which I think you should if you are taking the class, get a tutor, specifically a tutor that does AP spanish, that way you'll be a lot more prepared. I also recommend that you starting reading books in spanish, which I have found to be quite helpful.

I'm hoping my self studying D will get used to listening with the CDs in the prep and text books, and maybe with Destinos from Annenberg on TV, online, or in the library (it's a bit elementary but good for review and listening) or maybe Spanish movies with or without subtitles.

yeah, spanish is one of those classes you have to do a lot of outside practice for. Do u know any native speakers? they can really help, especially if they speak very little english

nope i dont know any who speaks spanish at my school... well getting a tutor sounds good... i guess only way to prep for this exam is just get used to the language itself sigh
honestly i am still not sure if should just not take the exam at all..

that is not true that it looks bad not to take the AP exam because unless you send your scores to colleges (they don't really care for them in admissions) then they will never know

Okay, I’m reviving this thread.
So I do well in my online Ap Spanish which consists of doing practice ap exam sections most or all of the time. The problem is I do not follow the time constraints for the activities. If I do follow the time I end up with incomplete work. I know he Exam will not allow me to take my time, so is it worth it? Or should I just take the Spanish placement exam when college comes around?

It’s a late reply but honestly I’m starting to prep for this exam now in December and it still feels so hard. The sentence structure is stuff that we are just not used to at all. The way the readings are worded are pretty much impossible for me to comprehend.
