I really need help making the decision of whether to take apush or honors history II junior year (next year). This is my current schedule:

Honors Precalc
Honors Bio
Honors English
Honors French
AP Statistics
AP Psychology
Either APUSH or Honors US History

My only concern with not taking apush is that my schedule will not look vigorous enough for NYU stern or Georgetown— I REALLY wanna go there, but idk how great my chances would be if I just took honors history. Is 2 AP's enough for junior year? I took one last year as a sophomore ( one was the max amount.). For juniors, 4 is the max amount. (however, there are no other APs that i could take unless i wanted to do ap chem, which i dont.)
Also, I STRONGLY hate history and it is also my worst subject. Just the thought of honors us history from last year makes me teary eyed. I heard that apush is super hard, but i would be able to overlook the huge workload if i chose to take it since i know it would help me get into Stern.
Also, i just got my schedule and i can see that apush is keeping me from having other classes with my friends. I know this sounds silly, but it makes me really sad and this alone just makes me want to drop down to honors.

I dont even know what to do, what are your thoughts?

honestly I would take it. I ended up taking APUSH junior year because of a scheduling conflict (signed up for honors originally) and ended up learning so much in it. I hate history with a burning passion too and I am horrible at it (barely got a B soph year in world history 2 honors). Think of it this way, you’ll learn to be a better writer, it’ll significantly increase your course rigor, and if you get a high enough score on the AP exam (for me it was a 4, which I got), you won’t have to take it in college!

Honestly, a lot of times I find that the overall experience of AP classes versus honors is generally better. For instance, with Chemistry, I took honors last year and absolutely hated it. This year I have the same teacher for AP, but there are less students, and the students care a lot more about learning and are more respectful towards the class and the teacher. It’s my favorite class thus far. This might be the case with you for history, because the classroom you’re in is a big part of the experience that you take.

If you’re really set on these schools, than adding another AP class, even while you may hate it, would definitely be worth it if it meant you were closer to your dream. As for if two AP classes are enough for Junior year, it really depends on the student. I’m a Junior this year and I’m taking four AP classes. Last year I took two. One thing I noticed is that after taking taking the first AP class or two, I got used to the rigor that the classes usually involve. If I were you, I wouldn’t be concerned about being in three AP classes, but two is really good as well.

I don’t really have much advice as far as friends go. I’ve never had too much of a problem since I go to a small school, but at least you’d be able to make some new friends if you have none in the classes you’re placed in. I completely understand being upset at not being in the same class as your friends.

In the end, it depends on whether you think the benefits of taking the class outweigh the negatives.
