So im a sophomore and i have 2 honor classes which was already pretty hard for me. Both honors classes I have around 75% .
First semester I got a 3.1 , predicting a 3.3~ 2nd semester.

Total Gpa right now is 3.3 unweighted

My classes for junior year are all regs, so I can boost my gpa / study for sat

So my question is. Should I take Apush? I'm okay at history .. but I've never taken anything above honors . Does it make a huge difference to the colleges?

Should I guarantee a good gpa with regs or take APUSH ?

If it makes a great impact taking 1 AP class I'm willing to try my best.. if not I'll just stick to all regs and hopefully get a good gpa junior year

A DBQ I a document based question. Basically you’re presented a topic to analyze, question, or compare a topic. You’re given 9 sources to help you with your response. Each source contains information important to te topic. You have 15 minutes to read the sources then 45 minutes to write your response

Being in APUSH, I can tell you that DBQs are a lot easier to write than you would think. You’re given sources to help spark ideas, and when combined with some outside information, it is easy to get a good score

I think that you should take APUSH. I took it as a Sophomore and I struggled somewhat with how much work there was, but I was young and naive. I’m currently a Junior enrolled in multiple APs (including AP World) and I’ve found that I am a lot more capable of handling the work load of AP classes. APUSH isn’t conceptually hard, its just pure memorization. In terms of DBQs, its basically a prompt in which you have to use sources in your response. They’re relatively easy in that if you were clueless as to what the prompt was asking or what a solid answer would be, you could read through the sources and get a better picture.

In agreement with @GenApo - if you have the option to take AP World over APUSH, I would do that if I were you. I know a lot of kids who started off their AP curricula with AP World or AP Environmental as their first AP.

If you love learning about american history, go for it. You will definitely learn a lot during this class but I have to warn you that it’s going to be SUPER hard!! It might differ between schools but I think that APUSH is one of the hardest ap’s ever.
Unfortunately, I had to learn this the hard way and took it this year. I think I might get a C in the class (and I usually have A’s overall). This class is really hard for me and almost all of my friends in APUSH are struggling. You have to do TONS of notetaking, learn hundreds of dates, people, and events, and you need lots of time. I procastinated so much this year that it’s taking a really bad effect on my grade.
If you’re thinking about other AP classes, I would recommend APES, APecon, APstats, APgov, APpsych or APworld. These are probably the “easier” AP classes.
I can’t complain if you really do want to take APUSH. If you love history, I think you would enjoy this class. If I were you, I would probably try out a practice APUSH test and see where you are. For me, I don’t know why I took this torture since I really don’t have an interest for history…
