Should I take APUSH?

So currently I am taking World History Honors. So next year I am planning on APUSH. Is this a good idea or not. I am currently a freshman.

This is the schedule for next year:
APUSH
AP Chemistry
AP Physics 1
Precalculus
Spanish 3
AICE General Paper(second year)
AP Lang(I might not take this)
Study Hall

AP Chem and AP Physics (double lab) as a sophomore is a pretty big load. Make sure you talk to students who have taken those classes and to your guidance counselor so you have a good idea of what you are getting into. That goes for APUSH too… the workload can vary greatly from school-to-school. Your guidance counselor may be in a better position to answer this than anyone on these boards.

My current Chemistry Honors teacher also teaches AP Chemistry and currently I have an A in Chemistry Honors.

So I think AP Chemistry might be easy.

Do you have AP World as an option? Our school has AP World then APUSH as the soph/Junior sequence. AP World is an easier into to AP history courses.

Your teachers/guidance counselor/parents will have much more information on your skills/abilities/work ethic/etc. needed for a rigorous course load than anyone here.

Take AP world before APUSH and take APUSH, AP physics 1, and AP lang junior year(idk if you have taken english 2 before though). Is there a prerequisite course for AP chem? Taking it out of the blue is tough is there a pap chem class or even AP bio might be better as a sophomore.

For history usually it is is world history honors or AP but no need to take both. 10th grade APUSH is extremely common so not sure why that would need to change. We have AP World or modern world history junior year.

I would suggest biology before taking AP Chem.

I am currently taking World History Honors.

I might consider taking AP biology only because I have 7 classes and I can fill a few of them with core classes(around 1-2).

Like my electives that is what I meant because I have three electives. I could fill a few of them with core classes(around 1-2). Especially since I am finishing most of the really important electives now like debate and also AP computer science principles.

At my kids’ HS, everyone takes Chem in 9th then a small few are invited to take AP Chem in 10th along with the “normal” 10th grade science, Biology. Typically AP chem is done in 12th after Chem/Bio/Phys is done. Some very STEM-y kids take APChem and APphys1 together in 10th. One kid is this year(mine), none last yr, two the yr before, one before that. So that is quite rare, and you have to be invited, but it is doable. The teachers invite the kids, not the other way around.
(APUSH is mandatory 11th here so I cannot comment on the mix with it and the other courses).
As others have said, these courses can vary widely based on the school. You should really talk to your guidance counselor or even your current Honors Chem and World History teachers. Find out if this schedule has been done by others before and if they think it is reasonable considering how you are performing as a student. Wait and have the conversation after you at least have one semester under your belt.

Edited to add: AP Chem will not be easy. Mine was the top student in 9th last yr and is currently working extremely hard to be one of only 3 kids in there with an A…the other two are seniors, with an extra year of math as well as AP physC/Bio under their belts.

85+% of USH AP exam takers were Juniors or later. 90+% of World test takers were Sophomores or earlier.

World then USH is by far the more common sequence.

You know, both users can be right. ?

Regardless, the big unknown is what is the “normal” social science progression at the OP’s school or what courses they offer. S/he has already indicated that s/he is in World History Honors. Usually, if WHAP is offered, it’s an either/or between WHAP and honors, although some schools have a 2 year sequence with Year 1 being ancient world history and Y2 being WHAP (following the course redesign). USH is usually an 11th grade course, but at some schools, it’s the 10th grade course.

Bottom line, the OP is going to continue to get some advice that means well, but is useless, for the fourth thread in a row if we’re forced to guess their “normal” curriculum.

The normal social studies progression is World History for a year, United States History for a year, and the United States government course for half a year, and economics for half a year.

I am dropping out of the APUSH class. I love history but it is taking up all my hours, i personally don’t suggest it unless you are going into the history career field.

I think APUSH would just be a challenge then for me. I think I can manage my time somewhat well.
