I’m a sophomore and am still figuring out what I want to major in. Recently, Psychiatry has interested me and I’m considering it as a career. I’m also a good artist and enjoy painting and drawing, but know I know I’m not going to major in art. I was thinking about taking art in my junior year, and my school’s art teacher knows I’m good and said I could skip Art I and do Honors Art next year. However, I also want to take AP Psych, since I’m interested in the field. Plus, I just realized I’m only guaranteed taking 2 AP classes junior year, which doesn’t seem enough. If I don’t take Psych this year I’ll take it senior year, but I’m worried it will make colleges think I’m not passionate about the subject. I don’t have enough schedule for both, so I’m going to have to choose one. Is it worth taking Art for fun, or should I take Psych instead?
i forgot to mention that i take art classes outside of school and plan on applying for an art supplement:)
If you’re already committed to taking art outside of school, I would recommend taking psych You’ll be able to confirm for yourself that you actually do want to pursue it and implement that into college apps/essays.
