Should I take Latin or Spanish for a Psychology major & law school?

Will Latin help me with psychology and law terms?

I've taken Spanish from 7th - 9th grade and I don't remember most of it. Would it be more beneficial for me to take Spanish again in college because I already have the basics? Or would Latin be better in the long run?

Latin would not be useful for psychology. In law, you will come across a number of legal terms in Latin. Latin might be nice to know, but I don’t think you need it to learn the meaning of these terms. Spanish would be practical if you deal with Spanish-speaking persons in a law practice.

spanish for sure!

I had all of my children study Latin in middle school and HS. It increased their vocabulary and enhanced their writing skills. I felt that was more useful to them at this stage in their lives than Spanish.

However, I never studied Latin and I became a lawyer. The amount of Latin you need to know for legal terms is limited and, frankly, if you have a decent vocabulary, you can figure most of them out. If not, your professors will explain them…

If you plan to work in immigration law, you might want to learn Spanish.
