I'm currently a jr and its time to pick courses for sr. year. I am debating wether or not I should take physics, whether it would look goo or bad to colleges. My current schedule this year is:
English 3 Academic
Lab Chem
Algebra II
Spanish 3
Academic US History II
Business Management/College Verbal Skills (Each is a 1/2 year course)
Phys ED

My tentative schedule for next year is:
English 4 Academic
Pre-calculus
AP US Government/Politics
Accounting II (Honors)
Marketing
Economics
Phys Ed

Should I drop Economics for Physics or drop it and go into Physics Honors. I'm currently getting an A- in Chem. My science courses I've take are Physical Science Lab (Freshman Year), Lab Bio (Sophmore year), and currently Lab Chem (Jr year). I really need advice on what I should do about selecting my courses.

What are your preferences in a college and a major? If you are thinking of a state school, for instance, you probably don't need Physics. However, this may be your last chance to take it, so if you love science, math and learning, look into the Physics course. If you are looking at highly selective schools, I think it's almost a necessity.

Hmm ... to me picking courses is about your interests and keeping options open. Your posting didn't really describe your interests ... if there is a chance you want to do math/science/engineering in college then yes take Physics ... if you think you'll really enjoy it then yes take physics.

I'm planning on majoring in business in college. I'm not planning on going to a Harvard or Yale or anything like that. I'm looking at schools like Maryland, UConn, Syracuse, St. John's, Rutgers, and Ohio St

I think Econ would be more beneficial to a potential business major than Physics. I'm currently taking Physics my senior year and its kind of interesting. Look at your transcript I guess, it looks like your kind of business heavy, if you need some more science courses than by all means go for it.

i think u need to take physics regardless of ur major b/c it's just the whole package liberal arts education i believe in. I don't like all the subjects but i still take them, b/c whether i like it or not i'm not wise enough to say right now that i will never use it. I'm only a high school kid so definitely take it.

I'm not a big fan of HS econ, since it doesn't require much more than Alg I, and most HS econ teachers can't much beyond the text. However, the schools on your list will likely be ok with three years of science -- check out their websites to see if your frosh year counts. For example, the UC's will not accept integrated/coordinated science as fulfillment of one year of lab science.

Physics is a difficult subject for a lot of people to grasp. I wouldn't take it unless it was something I could use in the future. Since you wanna go into business, economics is more essential.

If you aren't really interested in physics, it might be hard to deal with during senior year. It won't help you in applying to college any more than econ would.

Regular physics in high school can be kinda boring too. There is a lot on levers, pulleys, friction and stuff like that. It isn't the kind of physics that explains the universe, IMO.

I'm a junior right now, and I'm also trying to figure out my schedule for next year. This year I'm taking:

AP US History
English 11 Honors
Latin 1 honors
French Honors
Math B(before pre-calc)
Physics
Theology(i go to a catholic school)
Chorus

Next year I'm thinking about taking
AP Literature
Catechetics(like honors theology)
AP Economics
AP French
AP statistics(undecided on this one, since i'm not sure if not taking pre-calc will hurt my chances getting into college)
Latin II honors
i really want to try and get into AP bio since my bio grades were in the 90s but right now my physics grade is in like the 80's and its extremely difficult to get into. If I do get in however, I'd prob just drop the AP stat and take regular pre-calc.
Now the real question is, does dropping science your senior year look bad? Because if I can't get into AP bio, then I would only be able to take env. science because I cannot take any other science due to the fact that I skipped earth science. By the end of this year i'll have taken bio, chem, and physics. I do not wish to major in science, in fact I detest it. I definitely want to apply to Georgetown, BC, University of Chicago but I don't really know my chances because my PSATS were kind of average, nothing fantastical but i'm getting a tutor so we'll see about that when I take the real SATS. I just don't know what to do.

If you need another science credit, definitely go for the AP Bio. If you don't need one, don't bother. And if you can't get into AP Bio and you need science, it doesn't look that great for college since others from your school will be taking the AP class.

Why is your school using a physics grade for AP Bio anyway?

My school only requires three years of science so as of this year I will have completed three courses.

Why is my school using a physics grade of AP Bio?
because they're extremely retarded in my opinion. They also look at your math grades too. It sucks because I had like a 91 in bio freshman year and I had a horrible teacher too. Maybe its because I have almost 3000 kids in my school and they want smaller classes? I'm really not sure.

The other sciences that my school has are environmental science, marine science, and forensic science. The only one I can take is environmental because I skipped earth science and that course is a pre-requisite for forensic and marine.

i took Honors Physics my senior year of hs and i am very glad i did. it was a very challenging course (harder than my general science course i took last semester in college) and makes my other classes seem easier now. your courseload seems fine as is though, plenty of difficult courses in there! good luck :D
