To see how it is? I can take it in January without studying and see what I got. Then I can take it again in May or June? But the problem is, I have to take 4 tests in May and June. 2 subject tests - Bio and Math 2 and 2 AP Tests, Chinese and Bio (which is what I'm studying in school, only ap class avail.). 4 TESTS! I can take all 4 in May and leave SAT to June...but....I'm having a lot of trouble on how to make time on all these tests. If I take SATs in Jan and take it again in May or June, what about my subject tests? However, I want to know how exactly the SAT would feel vs. the PSAT. And I don't know if taking it for the first time and getting an 1800 (what I think I'll get) would look bad. But if I study a bunch and take it for the first time and bomb it, that would suck even more!

I would recommend studying a bit before you take it the first time, since some colleges don’t do score choice and it probably would look bad if you got an 1800 when you’re applying to a highly selective school. Do at least one practice test from the Collegeboard Official SAT Guide if you have time, and it’ll give you a pretty accurate range of where your real score should be. You can then work on some of the portions you are weaker on and maybe save like $60 and a Saturday.

No, I think it’s just a waste of time and money. I would suggest doing an official practice test (like from the blue book) and then studying based on that. If you start soon, you could probably build a study plan that allows you to be ready by January 25th.

Well my question is, should I just study really hard and take it in March and forget about January…if I need to take it a 2nd time, I’ll take it in June? Since it looks bad…I’ve already taken a subject test, is it similar to that but with more people in the room? Someone told me I should take my SAT 2nd time in June and 3rd time after summer, but I’ll have to take 2 subject tests in May…

You’re overthinking this. Just choose a month when you feel that you’re ready to take, otherwise it will be a big waste of money. Take a prac test in Official Guide now and see how much you get. If it is low, then wait a little bit longer, until March just to make sure. SAT Subject test can be studied in a few months if you choose wisely. Since you have already taken a subject test, I assume you have already been acquainted with how things are done? If you are retaking these tests in May, then there should be no problem as you already possess some previous knowledge, but if you are taking two new subject tests then 2 months is still enough for you to learn.

The bottom line is, judge your ability and see when you are ready. It should also be borne in mind that if you fail on the first test, you might get stressed out on the retake. Retaking is not always an answer. One time one kill is the best option for financial and mental reasons.
