I took Spanish 1 in 8th grade and I took Spanish 2 in 9th. I then made the decision to not take Spanish 3 sophomore year which was a huge mistake. I want to take Spanish 3 to up my chances for college, but I haven’t learned Spanish in a year so I’m not sure if that’d be the best idea.
Absolutely take Spanish 3, if you think you’ll remember it well enough. You could brush up on your knowledge using Duolingo (free language-learning app) if you’re really dedicated. Foreign language classes make an application much more competitive.
So are you saying taking Spanish 3 would be better to take after a year without it, then an AP class?
Take Spanish 3. I have multiple friends who have taken a year off from spanish and do just fine when they come back to it. Plus, so much of spanish courses in hs is review. If youre worried, play around on Duolingo
Depends on your college list, but in general taking AP classes can’t take precedence over meeting college admissions requirements. Many schools require or strongly recommend foreign language to level 3 or 4.
Spanish 1&2 don’t go into depth anyways. Spanish 3 is when you start going into useful grammar concepts and slightly deeper vocab/cultural info. You should be ok, just make sure to brush up on pronunciation, listening, and reading. Duolingo should be enough.
I mean I was getting straight Cs and bs in that Spanish 2, so do you think I’d be capable if I practice a little over the summer in duolingo, for Spanish 3??
It really depends on how much you’ve forgotten and how much you practice. It can’t hurt, though.
