Should I transfer?

I'm currently at an ivy-league school in the northeast and I'm also on a sports team here. I'm class of 2012, so this year I'll be a sophomore. I'm really considering trying to transfer to Duke for my junior year. I spent this past year as a freshman trying to get into the "groove" of my current school, but by the time I figured out that I actually really hate it here, it was too late for me to transfer for the fall, and Duke doesn't accept spring transfers. I did not enjoy the cold weather and the overall unfriendliness of the student body. I found that members on the sports team I'm on were also overly competitive, in addition to other students in my classes. I'm a fairly conservative, Christian, Southern girl and I feel like Duke would be a much better match than my current school.

My questions are - how difficult is it for a transfer student (a junior) to assimiliate into Duke life? Could I be a member of a sorority? I'm scared if I transfer, then I will be even more lonely than I am now.

Also - how important will my GPA at my current school be in transfer admission? I have about a 3.2 and did get a C in calculus, so my grades from my current school aren't stellar, but my high school record is much better.

Thanks for your input on this important decision!

Transferring as a junior will be extremely difficult, though not impossible. You should really contact the department you want to major in and inquire about the feasibility of transferring your credits from the current school.
