Should I wait to take the SAT?

I'm a rising freshman. I've already taken math through Algebra 2, and I'm very advanced in English. I've taken a few SAT practice tests and I've gotten good scores. With a little more prep I think I could pull off a 2200+ this year. Should I take the test, or should I wait until I'm a sophomore/junior? Also, can I retake it as many times as I want? Cost is not a issue.

A rising freshman?!

Go play outside.

If you think you can do that well and feel fully prepared, why wait? If you can knock it out of the park now, it would take some pressure off the coming years and look quite impressive to an admissions committee.

And yes, you can take it as many times as you want. Most students take it at least twice. Admission experts warn that you shouldn’t take it more than three times, though, as it starts to look desperate.

Wait until you’re going into you junior year… Start prepping a few hours a week now if you’re that eager… but your writing skills and math analysis abilities will evolve to a point where it’s more 2nd nature, coming out of 8th grade you will be a complete “noob.”

do tons of volunteering, maybe intern somewhere related to your major, and play plenty of sports/ do competitions if you’re wanting to start boosting your college app. but don’t start thinking about the SAT because if you were really ready, you wouldn’t have to ask.

also, go play in a sand box or something until you complete your sophomore year…

I say, wait.

The benefit to waiting is that, while you think you might score 2200 or better now, you’re still likely to score higher after two years of high school. You’ll learn more words. You’ll take the PSAT a couple of times; no matter how many times you’ve taken fill-in-the-circle tests before, taking more of them generally means getting better at filling in the correct circle. And more than anything else, what the SAT measures is how many times you darkened the circle they wanted you to darken.

What would be the benefit to taking it now? Getting it out of the way so you won’t have to worry about it? If you’re talking about taking the SAT at the start of 9th grade, I bet you’re not really that worried. Impress colleges by scoring 2200 or more in the 9th grade (if you can, in fact, do that)? They’ll be just as impressed by 2300 or more in the 11th (if you can, in fact, do that).

Daise, and to a lesser extent SoCalStudent, your assumptive comments and condescending attitudes are extremely helpful. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for your advice Sikorsky, you make good points. I might wait at least until 10th grade.

I’m going into 9th grade next year too, and I’m planning to take the SAT in October (already signed up). I’m pretty sure, with an adequate amount of prepping for CR, I could definitely get a 2100 or 2200. Well, at least I know I’m not the only freshman thinking of taking the SAT. :)

I agree with Sikorsky, if you’re this far along as a freshman than you will be even closer to that 2400 by the time you are a junior or senior.

Sorry for being flippant. I meant my comment in a loving-older-sister kind of way (though I know that’s not how it came across), and I agree with Sikorsky that you’re better off waiting. And honestly, I think worrying about the SAT before you have to is more likely to hurt your performance than help it. Better off focusing on schoolwork, your other worthwhile activities, and, yes, relaxing a bit.

Lol yeah really go out and enjoy life before you get wrapped up in this mess!

Seriously? I feel so stupid when I see freshman pulling off a 2100+ SAT score.
I’m a freakin sophomore and I only get like 2000 more or less.

But seriously, CHILL OUT. Play outside. You have 3 more years
