I’ve been accepted to a few of my matches/reaches early and one safety school. Financial aid has been/will be worked out. I’m not committed anywhere yet b/c I’m waiting for my top private school reaches. There are a few safety/match schools that I haven’t heard back from yet (particularly some UC’s), which I definitely will not go to at this point. I didn’t have to pay app fees so I won’t be losing money.
In addition, I go to a top-ranked public high school in CA that sends consistent numbers (dozens) to all UC campuses each year, plus UC’s have been/are increasing number of in-state/CA admits. If I withdraw my applications, would it potentially help some borderline people at my school get in? Like instead of being put on waitlist, they might get in right away? Is it too late in the application review process to make a difference?
I just can’t think of a compelling reason/scenario to leave my applications at those places up for review.
@mikemac We’re on winter break right now, so I can’t ask. Didn’t mean to come off as pretentious, there are numbers to back it up. I figured asking CC wouldn’t be that much help anyways.
Easy answer.
There will be no advantage at all to your classmates if you withdraw your application now.
Each UC reviews their applications separately, and there’s no internal limit to how many student from a given HS will get acceptances to a specific UC or even a specific major. Your classmates will each be considered and assessed on their own merits holistically and not because you gave up a ‘potential’ spot
Driven,
CC is helpful for people who have genuine questions. You don’t exactly have a problem for us to solve. To answer your question- withdrawing your applications will probably not help someone at your high school. Schools always accept more applicants than they can take in as freshmen because they are fully aware that students apply to multiple schools. Especially students from expensive and exclusive schools looking for safety schools.
The reason you are getting negative reactions is probably because of your expressed concerns only for the students AT YOUR OWN SCHOOL. You may have had a less snarky response if you hadn’t limited your compassion to such a narrow population.
