BTW - speaking of advisors: Are advisors for first-years generally assigned and available for questions prior to attending summer orientation? Or do you not receive their information until you are at summer orientation? Thanks.

GRP: another learning opportunity…one day he’ll have a job and grad school and still need to figure out how to pay bills and schedule stuff in. He’s 18 so I’m not going to press hard, but it seems like this is becoming a bigger deal than needed. Either he signs up for math or he doesn’t, his scheduling will determine that

He can email the Thornton undergrad and they’ll point him in the right direction for soliciting advice.

The advisor you have at summer orientation is not the same advisor you will get on/after move in day in August. They are not available prior to move in day in any way that would be helpful to you.

shoe, thanks. Obviously I know all of that (I’ve lived it myself). Believe it or not my own college experience wasn’t back in Roman days, although it feels like it sometimes.

I don’t want to beat the issue either - but for reference he’s not 18, he just recently turned 17 (youngest in his class) and it’s not 5 years down the road yet. He’s simply trying to gather a variety of information to make an informed decision - which, I think you’d agree, “is” the adult/responsible thing to do. I must have missed something here, or asked my question in an offensive way to get two of the most helpful people here agitated, so I won’t continue it. No worries though, and thanks for the continued input.

hazel, thanks - that’s actually very good to know.
