Should parents go to convocation?

Hello. I am hoping for a bit of advice from parents of former or current USC students. Our son is a Presidential Scholar in the class of 2021. He needs to be on campus August 14 for a two-day on-campus leadership retreat. Should we stay - hang at Disneyland - until move-in day on the 16th and convocation on the 17th? He is our eldest child so this is all new to us. Thanks!

@mkedad - Welcome to the Trojan Family! If you really want to go to DL or hang out in socal that could be fun, but if just doing it to wait to move him in, that seems like way too much. It’s really a personal choice…but is he allowed early move in? Or is his stuff actually sitting in your car (or wherever) till the 16th? Can’t believe it would work that way, but idk. Doesn’t he actually move in early??? Convocation - we would never consider hanging around for that. This is my third, and we have moved them in that first day and are usually driving north by noon to 2pm - they have things to do and people to meet. We were on campus 3-5 hours depending on how organized we were, but it was really fast for us and they were ready to go be college students. But certainly for some families, the pomp and circumstance is really cool, and for them, it may be a big deal to spend the day and hang for the next, just not our m.o.

Mork, Stamps, Presidential and Trustee Scholars get to move in early. I did not stay for convocation and my D said I didn’t miss much, but YMMV.
