Its not just the first post - its many of the other posts. They are hard working and modest, considerate of their family’s finances and thankful. And ACOMPLISHED students. That’s what the schools can see in their apps.
I’m not wanting to make things more confusing or your decisions more difficult, but I believe that P’ton or Harvard would be likely to up their financial aid offers if they knew what Yale was offering. Does anyone have any experience with going back to HYP for a review by notifying them of one significantly better offer from a peer school?
It stands to reason that HYP would not want to lose out on an admitted student (or four) because of a relatively small (from the institutional perspective) difference in aid.
Thoughts?
Well we haven’t heard yet if they are all interested in the same school yet, so that’s good info on the matching of offers. If one bro prefers Princeton or Harvard to Yale, it won’t hurt to ask for the match.
I worked with middle class and underserved student at helping them with college admissions. Last year I helped a first gen student get better finanical aid from Yale. This student had great financial aid from JHU but Yale financial aid told me that they only consider Harvard and Princeton in matching finanical aid offers. So @NikkuWadde and @mr. me- if one of your brothers wants a different school then use the Yale offer to try and get better aid.
This same student did not have much luck with getting Brown to match her financial aid offer, but I did not handle those negoiations. Even one brother wants Duke, Vandy or one of the other schools, I suggest using the Yale offer, but you also need to state that if the offer is matched that you will attend that college. I have had better luck with having colleges raise financial aid offers when taking that stances. Of course, not every college will budge on their financial aid offers, I am just talking about the ones that do. If a UC, you can basically forget about trying to get more aid.
Since my student didn’t apply to Princeton or Harvard, I used her circumstances to get Yale to increase their aid. I can’t remember what state you are all from, but one argument that worked was that my student was from the West Coast and would need $$ to buy clothes for the cold weather. Apparently that is one item where Yale will increase aid. I also have to say that I was working with a really nice person out of the Yale finanical aid office who really understood the finanical predicament of my student.
By the way congratulations on your recent acceptances. I am married to an identical twin (and even at 60 years old they throw people off since they look and sound the same) and my husband went to Yale and his twin went to Harvard so you don’t all necessarily have to go to the same school. Either way enjoy the rest of your senior year and be sure to be nice to your parents since they did a great job raising you all.
@NikkuWadde @Mr.Me I know other posters said this but I know for a fact that you guys could probably get more financial aid from harvard and others if you let them know that yale gave you a better financial aid. Kwasi Enin, a guy who got into all 8 ivy league schools 2 years used this technique to get a lot of financial aid, ironically it was from Yale.
He pretty much emailed the schools saying “I would love to go to your school but I got a better financial aid offer from school X”
Here is the article

Nonetheless I would definitely try this technique to maximize the amount of financial aid you get. Good luck. :-h
Well, don’t keep us in suspense! Did anyone get into Stanford?
Any update on Stanford?
Done! Sent aid appeals/aid match requests to Harvard and Princeton!
Hi, everyone! We have one last admissions decision to share:
@NikkuWadde and I were accepted into Stanford! The other two were waitlisted.
That makes me the only brother to have been officially rejected at any of his schools.
But I’m overjoyed to have gotten into my top pick (I’m also super excited for my brothers)! Still waiting to hear back about financial aid, though.
Thank you all for your support throughout this entire process.
And that’s a wrap y’all! No more colleges to hear back from.
You guys will go where you feel led, but part of me thinks it would be pretty cool if you ended up at Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Stanford, respectively.
Haha, I turned on the tv and “Dr. Ken” was on ABC and it was at the part where the daughter talked about getting into Stanford…and then I remembered you guys and checked the thread. Haha. Congrats once again. I’m glad to have watched the whole admissions process with everyone in this thread.
And then your parents can do a nationwide speaking tour to share the secrets of their sons’ success with nervous parents willing to pay big bucks for their parenting secrets!
I have thoroughly enjoyed lurking on this thread throughout this process. It’s really been a joy to see the outcomes here, and I’m looking forward to hearing where each of you ends up.
One thing I wanted to add, and folks may boo me for this, but I would recommend that you not do any press about this. @NikkuWadde, in one of your first posts, you said you didn’t want to be labeled as one of the “quad kids” or something like that. You will be if the press is alerted. Just my .02. Congratulations to each of you!
Please keep us posted on your decisions. If the FA gets matched - what is everyone’s first choice right now? Are you revisiting?
I think my tops are Princeton and Yale-- it was Geoegetown (I don’t think I’d vibe at Harvard in general). I emailed GU and they won’t match Yale’s aid @suzyQ7. But it looks like Harvard and Princeton will. But rest assured, we wil be be visitng most of these schools.
It will be so much fun to visit!
Slight correction on the Stanford decisions:
Two accepted, one waitlisted, and one rejected. I had misreported the results to @Mr. Me earlier. (A bit of brotherly miscommunication, if you will! Haha)
However, be prepared for the press to notice (perhaps prepare what you will tell them if they show up asking questions). It may be hard to keep the press away if there is enough chatter around your high school and it gets to the press (e.g. a student’s parent or a spouse or relative of a teacher or administrator works at any kind of news media).
Sit with your parents and decide right what will e off limits (baby pictures? Bedroom? Picture of you with calculator /computer /book? Separate pics? Group pic?) Will they be allowed to follow you around for a 'day in the life’s profile?
None if this may be needed, but better prepare.
How will you introduce yourselves? What will you say and not say? Where will it be (living
