Should S mention he was accepted to other colleges EA?

My S will have college interview soon. Should he mention he was accepted to other colleges EA?

Thanks!

Not unless he is asked.

Agree with math mom, but I would add that it is fairly likely that he will be asked about the other schools he is interested in.

It’s surprisingly common to ask which colleges you’ve applied to, and now that the early round is over, if/where you applied early and what happened.

It’s also incredibly awkward, and if I were an interviewer, I would never ask that. One interviewer asked me “What do you look for in a college?”, and I think that’s a better question.

Maybe (only if forced) “I’ve been accepted to OtherSchool already, but I so much prefer the way YourSchool does ________.”

Thanks everyone!

The interviewer asked for a copy of CV and essays. Is it normal?

Normal yes, common no. I know some of my kids interviewers asked for CVs or transcripts, none asked for essays. Some schools encourage interviewers to treat each applicant as a blank slate, but some interviewers like seeing this sort of thing because it makes it easier for them to start a conversation and to get some sense of the applicant ahead of time.

same here.

Essays? That’s a new one…I don’t think either of my kids brought one to any of the interviews that they went on.

My daughter sent her resume, and the interviewer had it highlighted when she walked in. No essays, though.

It could be that the interviewer will do no more than compare and contrast EA school and his school.

Since the interviewer asked, he has to send them, right?

This is my first child apply to colleges, I am new to everything.

Is this interview with an alum or an admissions officer at the college? Alumni interviewers are volunteers who enjoy participating in their alma mater’s activities–and it is questionable how much weight, if any, is placed on their evaluation.

The interviewer is an alum.

This is one part of the application process where you just don’t want to be a jerk…the college already knows all the great things about you from your application material.

But do send what is asked for. Your son will know what is in the material he sent, so that should make the interview easier.
