Correct me if I am wrong but when you apply to Ivies you have to send all scores. I think the fact that she only took the test once with indicate that it tested her natural intelligence more than a kid that took it 4 times. My dd only took her ACT and SAT once and scored very high - no perfect but very high (99%). But she also wasn’t applying to Ivies. She did very little prep work. She did not tell anyone that though.

No some ivies have score choice. Princeton is one of them. But she took them more than once without studying in between. I think she took the SAT three times. But the scores were pretty close together, I believe.

@BrownParent: I think you have a very valid point. Not everyone needs to slave over studying for standardized tests. I think my friend is okay with her current scores, but thinks that her not studying will cost her the ivies. And she may be right, but her current scores are decent and having done no prep over the summer and taking her last SAT last year, retaking it probably will not do her much good.

Well I think it is silly to pay to take the test the 2nd and 3rd time without doing some kind of preparation. I think your friend is not being 100% truthful. Why would you spend $100+ dollars to retake a test without found something different. Not to mention wasting two Saturday mornings.
