S13 has received mailings and emails encouraging him to apply for QB. Our family income is $90,000 for a family of 7. We have had no hardships occur...no one lost their job, no one is sick. It doesn't seem to me that we would qualify. He has already said he will be very annoyed if he does the work for nothing, since he is trying to get his apps done. His gpa and ACT are very good. Is it, in any ones opinion, worth encouraging him to do?

OP, 12% of finalists and 4% of Match recipients have incomes over $60,000. With a family of 7, I would think your son would get extra consideration as opposed to a smaller family. Yes, the application is long, but the benefits of free application fees is worth it. Plus he will be able to recycle or modify his QB essays for other schools since he will be forced to have it done early. I wouldn’t worry about the lack of hardships you mentioned, my daughter was a match recipient 5 years ago and other than being low income she didn’t have any. Good luck.
