<p>The proposition was made not because of chance threads take up the forum, but because we think they do more harm than good. It doesn’t make sense to ask kids online your chances. Maybe for some their ego is boosted, but for the many more who just browse through the site not posting, they compare their stats to those that were “rejected” or “accepted” and become discouraged from applying to a school that they probably would have loved.</p>
<p>darn, I just lost a post. well, here is about what I said.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t be averse to getting rid of the things. here is one reason why they could be useful:</p>
<p>last year I got in early decision, and after that came out, I read every single post where people filled out their stats and their results. mostly I was being immature (like, omg, does anyone have a higher SAT score than me??) but I do believe I absorbed some useful information. I have a slightly better idea of what chances look like for a CC-visiting Cornell applicant, recalling last year’s SAT scores and other information. I would never chance any other school because I haven’t looked over the information like I have for here.</p>
<p>nevertheless, one can just look up the SAT information in a number of places. why should you trust my memory?</p>
