Should we go the open house for juniors?

We got a mailing from U of C today inviting us to an open house on either March 30 or May 11. Right now U of C is not exactly my son's first choice. It's kind of lumped with about five to ten top 20 schools, which are all tied for first. We were planning to maybe visit both Northwestern and U of C one weekend next September.

We could change our plans and make the trip happen either date. What do you think? Do we get anything special at an open house, or should we just wait?

im going!! but i live in the area. they do have weekend visits and daily tours so its not the end of the world if u can't make it.

^Could you take some notes for us in case we don't make it? :-)

Do you know if you miss out on a lot by going on a weekend tour? For me the major cost of the visit is taking the time off from work.

Weekend tours are exactly like regular tours- I am a campus tour guide and have given both, and I can tell you that my tours either day are exactly the same. It can be really nice for a student to couple a visit with sitting in on a class (which, I think, is a very helpful thing to do when looking to see if a school is right). Weekend tours are only offered on Saturday mornings during the fall, though, so keep that in mind as you plan your travel.
The junior open houses are very nice, though, and it can be a great way for a student (and parent) to get a good feel for the school, go to presentations about financial aid, study abroad, or other things that might be of interest, and meet current students or simply talk to other people who are considering coming to UChicago- they may become your fellow classmates!

Just don't try and see both in one day.
