yes or no? thanks!

Don’t bring it up unless they ask you. When it comes to questions like this just keep it vague.

You can always just tell them they’re your first choice–as long as it’s true (and, since you’re only applying to one, it MUST be true!)

FWIW, a friend of ours is the director of admissions at a top tier university (not an Ivy), and he advised us to make sure we told AO that DS was only applying to their school. He felt very strongly that it would be meaningful to them. Just passing it on.

I think it depends on your situation. If you’re applying as a day student to the only local school that’s a good fit, and you’re not applying anywhere as a boarding student, it’s probably a good thing to mention. If you’re only applying to a single school that’s selective and across the country, I wouldn’t mention it as it may raise questions in minds of the admissions committee (you might appear overconfident, or not fully committed to the idea of boarding, etc.).

You should communicate this in a way that fits into the conversation. Work it in somehow.

I can tell you that one day at my sons’ independent school, I heard the admission’s officer, saying, “they applied just to one school!?! Dangd fools. As if it makes a difference.” and he was shaking his head.

So it can depend on the school, the admissions person, whether your kid is a highly desired candidate, and how you say this.
