Showing interest after apps have been submitted?

My D is very keen on a particular college and has interviewed. It is pretty selective, she really likes it, and is wondering if there are ways to continue to demonstrate interest after applying. Or would this annoy the reps? She interviewed on campus, but can she request an alumnus interview? Is this overkill?

She can ask, but they will probably wonder what she has to learn… I’d suggest that she check her online portal regularly, and send an email to the main admissions email near the end of Jan/early Feb if she has any EC or accomplishment updates. I assume this is a school that cares about interest (you can tell from Googling their common data set).

I wouldn’t request a 2nd interview, but could she potentially visit again and sit in on a class? Some schools may have online group chat opportunities as well.
You could also consider having her gc chat with admissions to relay that it is her first choice

Yes, interest is important to this college. She will always err on the side of caution, so she will be reluctant to do anything that might be perceived as “bugging” admissions.
She has found the interest component very frustrating. After various attempts to express interest to reps over the past year, (asking pointed questions), and very rarely getting responses, she now refuses to contact a rep unless there is something important to say. She was advised to do this by her GC at school and by our private advisor. The most responsive rep was actually from William and Mary, and she ended up not applying.

@wisteria100 , great ideas! Thanks!

Showing interest is probably more important if she is “overqualified” (i.e. show interest so that the school does not think it is a last choice “safety” for her). Among other things, she can periodically check the admission web site. If any email from the college comes, open it using an HTML-enabled email client so that any images will be downloaded during the reading (image downloads can be used to track whether email is read).

Only so much interest matters. If she visited, interviewed, and has been on the mailing list, I wouldn’t worry. If she doesn’t get in, it won’t be because she didn’t show interest.

@intparent that is probably a good point. But if she is on the cusp, can that extra interest be a possible tipping point, given two equal candidates?
She has visited, and thought at the time the interview went well. The ad rep came out and introduced herself, was very smiling and seemed relaxed and happy to meet me, the parent. Of course being in a doom and gloom frame of mind currently, my D now thinks the interview wasn’t that great, as it was one of her very first.
I have been contacted by a parent from this college who says it is a good idea to request an alumnus follow up meeting, as she has more questions. She seems to think this might be a good idea. This parent says alums love interviewing kids and she should let the interviewer know it is her top choice.

Alum interviews don’t really count for much at most schools, but it probably wouldn’t hurt her.

How can I check if Northeastern cares about interest? Tried googling, can’t find much @intparent

Find the common data set for northeastern, you can google it. Or go to college data.com. Type in the name of,the college, and click on admissions.
