I'm wondering whether financial aid officials will take this into account when calculating EFC? It is very likely that my daughter will be entering her college class of 2011 at a selective, liberal arts college. We also hope to have our son accepted at a private high school for its class of 2011.

Our EFC (by most methods) is about $20K. The tuition at the private high school is about $10K. It will be a huge stretch for us but may be the best course for our son.

Can one expect a significant increase in need-based aid? Not that I would expect a dollar-for-dollar basis, but would it be close? Before I contact the FA offices of the schools on her list, any advice for a newbie???

I'm sure that others will weigh in, but I believe the Profile does ask about sibling HS tuition. I think the "deduction" is only for about $7900, so schools that use the Profile will cut you some slack, but not the full $10,000 of HS tuition.

That is interresting and sounds fair enough . $7900 for private high school allowance for sibling . We are applying to very competitive public magnet high schools for our son but have a Catholic school as back-up if he does notget in and the tuition is $4020.

Do you have the figure for siblings ' savings accounts ???

Thanks SJMom for the "allowance" figure - it seems to be reasonable and about what I expected. I see that the question is on the CSS Profile but didn't determine that there $7900 allowance (I can't access the Profile's Help facility any longer as we've already hit the "Submit" button). I will follow up with the Financial Aid offices and see what they have to say.
