I am currently an undergrad at a university. I have a sibling who is interested in coming to my college with same major. That is if he is accepted (he is still currently waiting for responses). I am wandering if it would have any impact on his admission if I talk to the main major department and tell them I have a sibling interested in joining the university.

Having a sibling already at the university to which you’re applying doesn’t usually have any impact on admissions, so it’s doubtful you’ll be able to do anything to impact your sibling’s decision.

Not really, unless you know the person who has the influence very well.

“Hi, I’m a student here, I’ve taken a couple of electives in your department. My sibling is applying here for your program, see what you can do, thanks.”

vs.

“Hey, Jack, how’s Emily? Still doing soccer? Anyway, I’ve got a sister interested in your department, mind if I give her your email address so she can ask you some questions? Thanks, see you at the luncheon next Friday.”

Given that the second scenario is less likely, I say stay out of it.
