i know its not a legacy, but does it help at all?

Rachel Toor's book "Admissions Confidential" (reflecting on her stint as a Duke admissions officer) suggests that it is considered as a positive factor. I think she says at one point that applicants with stats similar to the admitted sibling are generally admitted, even if the applicant pool as a whole has grown more competitive. I would think it would depend in part on the success of the sibling at Duke.

I had been under the impression that parents and siblings DID constitue legacy status.

Yes, I thought so, too. I have a younger S who may want to follow in the footsteps of my older S, who is a current Duke student. Can someone verify whether a sibling is or is not a legacy. Thanks.

From the Duke Admissions website: "A legacy student is an applicant who has a grandparent, parent or sibling who has attended or is attending Duke. Duke does take legacy status into consideration when evaluating applicants, but it will not make or break any individual application."
