Hi all, just an update, no really good news, actually kind of scary news.

The one school that she would love to go to, the one where she met the coach detailed above on the 5/6 posting; well, her college counselor told her to ask about an interview and she called the person handling her app, left a VM, never heard back, called again last week and left another VM, still nothing.

I needed to call him because the application fee did not go through on the common app, so I was sending a check and wanted to make sure he got it and asked about the interview. He did not sound very hopeful. He said that at this late date an interview wouldn’t help and that it did not look very promising for admission. I told him this was the first I had heard and what about the coach wanting her? He said there is still a chance, but the whole tone of the conversation was not one of hope.

I immediately called the coach and he said that it all depends on the admissions returns and if there are any spots left. (I didn’t want to ask the admissions guy that in the call because the place where I thought of it, if I would have asked, it would have come off as challenging and perhaps argumentative). The coach told me that until we get a rejection letter, that there is still a chance.

So, we are in the waiting game, like so many other people on wait lists and what not.

I did also send an email to the FA head at my daughter’s NLI school. (which she doesn’t even want to go to anymore, but I think if it all works out, she would warm up to it again) I had spoke to him a few weeks ago after our appeal was done and asked him about the misleading information about the school being on record IN MULTIPLE PLACES as meeting 75% of a family’s demonstrated need and our daughter’s situation. He said that there was a chance that some additional aid would be available after all the admission returns were in. So I asked about that.

I do agree with the GFG about life experiences making us who we are, but it is a hard thing to live through in the present.

Hi ilovepyrs,
Thanks for checking in. It seems like the domino effect of people accepting admissions, getting off of waitlists, and so on, is peaking about now, so maybe something will open up at the first choice. I think you’re right to let the coach know how much she would love to be there. He can keep bringing her name up in admissions with more effect than anything you can do. Sending calming, hopeful thoughts your way…

Just wanted to add a word of encouragement. My S’s friend just heard this week he was accepted to a school and on the team. Again, it was one of those late recruiting stories–he actually visited and applied a few weeks ago. So it does happen!

Thanks for the update, we are still pulling for you both! I have also seen several late in the year recruiting situations that worked out very well for the athlete, so have faith!

Thanks for sharing your challenges in this difficult time. Understanding your experience will help the kids that follow behind yours. We are thinking good thoughts for you in our house as you work toward the right outcome for your athlete!!!

Thanks everyone!!! no news yet, she has apps in at 4 additional schools, and yesterday I logged in to the financial aid part of the student website at the NLI school and they had added a $2200 grant to our package. So at least the package is growing, still the big gap, but I am an optimistic person, so I like to see change in the right direction.

Hi Riverrunner, yes, I did speak with the coach this week at length. Told him she is looking elsewhere and he understands. She is looking at D3 schools now for a number of reasons, mostly because these were schools she was interested in, in contact with last fall, and that would look at her app this late, so it is not really a match from his point of view D1 vs D1… if you know what I mean.
But to your original question, the day I spoke to him, he told me that he had called FA for me the day before, so he is still working for our daughter. I think part of it is the school, just not that much $$ for him to get his hands on. IDK. I really believe him so that is all for now. I hope he can make something happen.

Hi all, tiny update: of the 4 late apps that were read for our D, she got her first acceptance letter today!!! Yay! FA pkg not ready yet, but at least she might have another place to go and she heard yesterday from another university that she was on the waitlist. Still in the waiting game for the $$$, but when you are putting apps in at schools without rolling admission in mid May, it is so exciting to get in, and she is happy too. Just waiting for 2 more, and hopefully the first choice school of these 4 will work out. That would be so ideal, but anyway, thought I would share this with anyone who cares.

where ever she lands it’ll be the right fit. I believe most kids end up exactly where they belong because of the admission and/or recruiting process, smooth or bumpy like you’ve experienced, all good in the end.

OK People, taking a sec to update again, she has received two packages that are unbelievable. LIke, incredibly generous, 3x the package she got from the NLI school!!! We are so lucky. money is not an issue, she has two great places to go (waitlisted at first choice of the 4 apps put in) dropping everything to go see the one school tomorrow and soon we will have a decision. Called the FA liason at the NLI school, told her about the packages and could they match them. the thing is -after the S**t they have put us through, and the beautiful packages we were presented, it makes the school look not so good in my daughter’s eyes. she has definitiely soured on it, so we will see. toodles

So happy for you and your family. Sometimes things really do all work out the way they are supposed to . . . even if it’s a little painful in the process.
