Simplified EFC Formula

I have read the criteria that determines if a student qualifies for the simplified EFC formula, but I have a question. If one qualifies, do they still have to answer the asset questions or will they be skipped?

I believe I’ve read that if you qualify, the skip logic will ask if you want to enter asset info anyway. If you answer ‘no’ it will skip the asset questions. I believe if you answer ‘yes’ and enter asset info anyway the asset info still won’t be used in the EFC formula.

Thanks for the quick response! I am a dependent student. My mother made ~$30k this year, we received food stamps, and my younger sibling receives free/reduced lunch. It didn’t ask me if I wanted to skip assets, which I expected it to do.

I completed FAFSA for both of my sons. It did ask if I wanted to skip the asset questions. I was afraid that the application would be deemed incomplete if I didn’t fill them out, so I answered the asset questions even though I was certain I qualified for the simplified EFC formula. One son has a lot more saved for college than the other son, and they both had income under the $6100 threshold. The EFC for both of them was exactly the same, so I would have to assume that assets were not taken into consideration even though I entered that information.
