I own a corporation that i created in france which makes 140000 a year . Will admission be easier for me ?
Easier than? What is your academic profile?
No, admissions will not be easier for you. Harvard admits people, not corporations, high schools, or countries.
Harvard seeks academically talented students (in a recent survey 54% of freshmen had a 4.0 unweighted GPA in high school, with the average GPA being 3.9) and doesn’t care how much money you or your corporation has made, or that you did it as a teenager; it’s irrelevant to whether you are a good person of strong moral “character.” That’s an old-fashioned word, it means the way you develop your inner qualities: intellectual passion, maturity, social conscience, concern for community, tolerance, inclusiveness and love of learning. And that’s what Harvard looks for. FWIW: it would actually be MORE impressive to Harvard if you made that money and then donated it to a cause that you are passionate about. The donation, and the good that it would do, would be more impressive to Harvard that you actually earning the money.
I think owning a corporation with earnings that high is indeed impressive. But the answer to your question is complicated. It really depends on a lot of other things, about which we have no information.
i think harvard seek for achievements more than well rounded students .
Why my nationality is a problem ? it’s not the nationality that matters there weren’t so many french because they weren’t good enough
Over a year ago you were trying to get recruited to Harvard as a track athlete:
How did that go? Did you apply last year? What happened?
Harvard likes to take a diverse group of kids. Harvard wants kids who will be future leaders. So owning a company by itself doesn’t mean much to them unless it is very successful
English is surprisingly poor for the owner of a company in French, just saying…
@SweedDz Did you apply last year? I’m guessing you only created this corporation recently since you don’t mention it in your ‘chances’ post a year ago:
it was one of my sibling not me and he didn’t get in
I’m not english native speaker and I live in france . That’s pretty normal …
it’s wasn’t me it was my sibling
Could you fill us in with your own stats? Starting a successful company is a plus on your application, but that does NOT mean you’re automatically going to get in.
109/120 on the TOEFL.
about 2300 on the sat .
Where did your “sibling” end up going? And as @Jpgranier asks, are your stats higher or lower than his? And do you have a TOEFL score?
he didn’t get into harvard but he had a backup plan in france a school called sciences po paris .
109/120 for toefl and 2300 for sat
It’s not normal for admitted students. Regardless of your TOEFL or SAT score, Admissions looks for international students who have EXCELLENT English writing skills. It’s not uncommon for some humanities classes at HYP to assign 200-300 pages of dense reading material a week. And international student’s are expected to be able easily read the material, as well as write a 10-20 page critical essay on what they have read. International students are not given any slack due to a lack of English proficiency and your grades will suffer if you don’t have those skills. This from Princeton, but Harvard and Yale feel the exact same way.
Maybe you should look over Harvard’s Writing Center and see if you understand and can do what is expected of you should you be admitted. Click on each topic and see: http://writingcenter.fas.harvard.edu/pages/strategies-essay-writing
