i think i have an awesome chance at chapel hill being in state...it is still competitive for state students but not nearly as competitive for oos

The fact that you are a URM really helps you. You have great class rank and test scores. Your UW GPA is very poor for ivy leagues and upper eschelon publics.

You're much better than Temple and Appalachian State.

Columbia, NYU, and Penn are reaches for you. Even as a URM, you still don't have the criteria there. UNC, Maryland, Rutgers, GW, and NC State would be good matches for you.

I think UNC would be a great school for you, if you get accepted.

thanks alot...I've actually narrowed my list down to my top 8 (in no particular order)

George Washington University

New York University

University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill

Temple University

Rutgers University- New Brunswick

University of Maryland- College Park

Appalachian State University

North Carolina State

the last two i don't really care about but i need fall back schools that i can afford

bump bump bump

you have no problem getting into university of maryland college park, temple university, or rutgers. those are all safetys for you. nyu should be a good match, columbia and upenn might be slight reaches but im sure you could do it with a stellar essay ^_^

cool, i see ur from maryland clam, me too...i was born in lanham, maryland though i grew up in charlotte, north carolina...are you, too, applying to umd?

Go Charlotte! The best city in the South. :)

Why exactly is NC State on your list? I mean, it's obviously a safety, but it doesn't offer any kind of urban planning progam, I think.

i don't know man, my mom is stressing my about applying there. my only other options are ecu and uncg(which i think would be okay)... are u from charlotte too

nyu is a match for someone with a 3.3 gpa and a 20-something SAT? i'm not saying that to be mean, i would actually like to know why. i've seen people on cc forums post their stats that had higher scores and were told nyu wasn't a match. i guess the ranking, right?

i don't know toffee...the responses and the chances predicted by the posters are going to vary poster to poster, obviously. it all depends on how a school's selectivity and what not are perceived by the poster. i don't really take any of this stuff seriously but its pretty nice to hear some affirmations (as well as some critiques so i know what my weaknesses are)

I think I had put NYU as a reach. Yes, I am from Charlotte (Independence HS). And yes, NC State would be a better safety than ECU.

New York University - slight reach
University of Pennsylvania - huge reach
Rutgers University- match
University of Maryland- College Park - match
Columbia University - huge reach
George Washington University - slight reach.

You need safeties! Look at Penn State maybe?

I think its pretty dangerous to put that many clubs. Because you are a leadership figure and on varsity sports. If you ahve time to be active in ALL THOSE CLUBS it makes me wonder how dedicated you are to anything and what you've actally been doing.

most college apps, as i am seeing, only allow for like 3 or 4 so its not like i'm list a thousand clubs on my apps...i'm using app and temple as safeties but temple is my top safety and it is actually one of my top schools because it offers me everything that i want and i figure that if i qualify for their honors program i can get the small school attention but the large, normal school experience which would be awesome

going up now

up, up you go
