what are the dorms like for frosh? i know the main building is doubles only. how's the availability for singles? how do you go about getting one?

Freshmen mostly live in doubles, and I think there are some triples. No singles, sorry.

No, there’s singles. Three girls on my floor requested random roommates and just ended up with a single. You can’t request them, though, unless you probably have some condition that necessitates it.

99% chance you’ll be in doubles. You can’t request a single room. What “main building” are you talking about? The Commons is 10 different buildings, none of which is the “main” one. You have nothing to complain about; even though I’m aching for a single, you live like royalty on the Commons.

There are very few single dorms in The Commons (freshman housing). You will have no trouble getting one as a sophomore. Kissam Quad has all singles. Barnard and Vanderbilt Hall as well as the Towers all have a good number of singles also. Check out the building floorplans on the Housing link under the Living on Campus section.
