Which do you prefer and why?

both have their ups and downs. if you know that you're a social person and you have no trouble making friends, a single might be better so you can have alone time and live by your own schedule. otherwise I would recommend a double.

I have a single right now and haven't regretted it even for a minute. You can do whatever you want whenever you want with a single. You can stay up until 5 AM or go to sleep at 10 PM without worrying about disturbing anyone else or being disturbed. And it's not hard at all to make friends from a single...walk across the hall, say hi, and there you go. Friends.

where is your single room located..i mean like which hall are you in...
and do you know which hall has the most single room..
i am dead set as single room toooo
but how did you make friends ont he first few days?

I am in Mews. I think Balch has by far the biggest rooms, but it's all girls. I think otherwise they are all pretty similar in size.

Make friends just like I said. Walk across the hall and say hi. There's a friend (or friends). Walking around campus, at the dining halls, whatever, just talk to people. Same way you make friends anywhere.

Heh, a double in Mews is so much better. Although you lack privacy, I like having a roommate and think that it's an experience every college student should have. Although you could end up hating your roommate and wanting to shoot him when he snores (my roommate doesn't do that).

Making friends is easy at the beginning, everyone wants to find friends, so don't stress about that.

There are advantages to both.
Single = you don't have to deal with another person who will undoubtedly get on your nerves at some point
double = you get a companion and don't turn into a hermit

go with the single. the dorm will probably be separated into suites so you'll still get to know your suitemates and your floormates. you might not even get a single. you might end up with a double, or triple.

If you are someone who had a room to yourself all your life, then a single might be the way to go. I know that sometimes you just want time to sorta debrief and have that person space to just chill. Having a roomate will prevent you from that. If you have a single in Donlon, Mews or Court, it's really not that big of a deal cause you'll meet plenty of people on your floor. You can still talk about life and share experiences with good friends across the hall. Plus, sometimes the best roomate is someone you are not as close to cause you can firmly set your ground and not worry about offending somoene.
