I claim credit for pulling Sluggbugg out of the woodwork – where she was hanging with the termites. See MomofWildChild’s wedding thread – Hatfields and McCoys. I think only slugg can truly do justice to the reporting of this event. Should we start a collection for plane fare?

I will fork over all of my Frequent Flyer Miles.

I would definitely pay to have slugg cover the Hatfields & McCoys event.

just an aside here – I am not a piker. It’s just that all of my posts have been here in the alley. or the cafe. or whatever. it’s just when I look at post counts I feel like a loser. I’m too scared to post on recognizable forums, as my ID is so poorly concealed.

Just go over to some of those Chances threads, ivoryk.

If you say anything intelligent, your posts will get lost among the zillions. No one will recognize you and you’ll build up that count.

I can’t believe it sluggbugg showed up, and I was napping under the back booth.

Im in!

Lol, jmmom.
Well, now – one way conversations never stopped me before! Okay, so I saw a Mudgie post over in the, “What the f— Are Parents Doing In This Forum?” thread. And, I’m pretty sure that I recognized TheDad there, too. Seems like I may have been in a drunken brawl with TheDad out in back of the Alley about 3 years ago, but I can’t remember. I’m sure that it was all in good fun…I don’t recollect bringing out the testicular claw, and the last happy corner I gave was to sluggson’s sophomore GATE teacher. ;)

I’ll tell you what brought me out of the woodwork. Nevada is my muse, and this time, it involved my classmates from my old high school in Nevada. They inspire me to rant, and I’m gonna rant like a motherslugger this time in the spirit of grad season.

See, it’s a double-whammy whenever I head back to “Nev.” First, my IQ starts to drop as I approach the city limits. 20 miles from town = a 10 point drop, and I start to imagine that the moon has gone through a 7-day cycle during the 20 minutes since I left the airport. 15 miles from town = another 10 point drop. At this point, I’ve turned on the radio, and some dude who sounds like Barry White is trying to coax visitors to a shooting range in Las Vegas where people can shoot their own machine guns. Okay, that’s starting to sound like something I might want to do! 10 miles from town, and I’m passing one of my favorite billboards: BAD BOY BAIL BONDS i* IQ is now pouring out of my ears like hot oil on a $10 ho.

By the time I get to the Albertson’s parking lot, it’s a real effort to get out of the car, collect my car keys, and remember the color and model of my rental car. If it’s not too late in the day, I might be able to dig a crumpled up ATM receipt out of my checkbook and write down the license plate. 'Cuz if I don’t do that, I’m titts-up (<— Vegas-speak) and out of luck!

:::dinner time:::: To Be Continued…

Oh Sluggbugg! I don’t have the poetic abilities to describe the crappiness of my day the way you do, LOL. Today was way up there on the crappy scale. Anyways, thought I would check in to the Alley, which I have not done for awhile, and what a treat to see you here! The way you rant, your descriptive gift, it somehow makes me feel better, even on such a highly crappy day as this one has been. Thank you.

sluggy always makes me smile!

And I need a smile. Lousy day too…worrisome weather, S flying in to the airport one hour away and guess what? he left his car keys behind. So H had to pick him up anyway (i.e. show up with the extra set of keys), and the two of them caravaned home, dodging tornadoes & drenching rain.

Now S is repacking for the trip off to first job & real apartment, early tomorrow morning. Yay for him, kinda bittersweet for us.

Enough…time for bed. Too late for a nightcap; I’ll save that thought for tomorrow morning.

OMG. Me too on the tough day and me too in a big way on the sluggwelcome! Rotgut all around!

okay after all those lousy days yesterday – hope everyone is doing better today. I’m confident that’s the case, thanks to the manager’s special – a free round for everyone. Salut!

^^ We have a manager?

Someone has to manage those marmots. :)

Just stopping in from the Parent Cafe for a lungful of politicfree air. Alsos, what’s a good cure for a slightly depressed Penguins fan?

…And welcome back Sluggy.

Hey! A toast to Roger, Sally, Dave et al on the sale of CC to Hobsons (collegeview.com).( I guess it’s ok to post that “link” since its not a competitor!) Maybe this round is on them?
Congrats to the cc folks!

pulling my people up from page 2 …

Congrats on the sale.

You know we’ve got the best bar in town. Please don’t turn it into one of those shee-shee places, that most of us would not be admitted to :)

Right, sybbie. If you insist on spelling it chi-chi, you can just go somewhere else. :D

(The above was for purposes of illustration only. I’m perfectly happy with shee-shee.)

Just noticed some of our members had crap-filled days the past few days? care to share (the details, not the crap itself…lest we have to resurrect the bidet thread like someone did on the “favorite threads” thread)

We’ve had severe T-storms, no electricity, a plague of locusts, and now extreme heat for this time of year.

The locusts are so noisy right now…I wish I could get a Db reading on them. Just deafening. And I’m always sweeping their little dead (and sometimes squashed) bodies off the deck. Yecch.

OK, this is from National Geographic in 2004, when we had a DIFFERENT brood of cicadas (what is it about the Midwest?) but it could easily apply to this infestation:

Other than that, life is pretty good. Son’s gf is visiting this weekend, then later this week S goes away to summer job. Remaining son has a summer job also. :)

LOL…have to post this.

Today’s Jim Borgmann cartoon shows 4 lady locusts around a small table, martini glasses in front of each. The caption is “Insects and the City.”

All the critters do while they are above ground is mate and lay eggs.
