Sproinggggg! The Alley takes its rightful place on Page Uno.

Furthermore, and in conclusion of PET WEEK in the Alley, it’s Hot Dog Day! Given the eclectic patronage in here, we serve 'em mostly Chicago-style, with a touch of NoCal hoo-hoo fancy-pance. All-beef, steamed in beer on a poppy seed bun with chopped red onion, fresh tomato, and a cucumber dill spear shoved in between the dog and the bun. A shot of dijon and some homemade sweet pickle relish, topped off with a sprinkle of celery salt.

The marmots are whipping up a batch of waffle fries and hot ketchup to go with. Don’t even think about putting any of that ketchup on your dog! It’s against the law in here, and the head cook wookie takes it personally.

Beer on tap from the Crazy Little Dachshund microbrewery next door.

Another one of those happy/sad times. What’s the drink equivalent of sweet/sour?

Drove 9 hours round trip yesterday to get DS to the airport for his overseas flight for semester abroad. Wonderful opportunity and all that and…I just didn’t like sending him off; I guess I didn’t realize that knowing I could drive to him “if he needed me (yeah right)” had mattered so much.

His flight was due to arrive around 4am. Awoke this morning to a brief but happy email from his destination city. He is not fazed in the least, and I knew it would be that way.

He’ll be fine, of course, and I think there is hope for me! Cheers.

ivoryk–“toasting dead hamsters” caught my eye and I wondered if the story included marshmallows on a stick before I remembered this is the Alley and we um, toast things with a drink here…

mafool–you are a hero for driving 9 hours to the airport! I would have put him on a small plane at the nearest airport and waved byebye.

mommusic- No heroics here! The airline that had the best rates and schedule to his destination does not fly out our local airport. The connecting flight would mean retrieving luggage, getting to the int’l terminal and making the connection at an airport that we know from multiple personal experiences is not anything close to a sure bet!

At the time, driving him to the closest major airport seemed the best idea. But then, there was the driving rain, the construction, the gridlock…Oh well, I had lots of time in the car with him. I do like this man/child.

I used Skype today for the first time. What a terrific invention that is!

Bummer–our schools are closed again tomorrow. Lots of people still without power (or internet)

And all my morning rehearsals are cancelled due to no power at the location. Hope the afternoon one is still on, or I will be seriously annoyed.

yes, mommusic, we have been flooded with hurricane rains in Michigan, too! It looked like someone was standing on the roof, above the window, with a fire hose going full blast. wild. (not to compare this with our friends in Texas.)

I stopped by to ask for your help…if you miss the Meta Thread for All of Us or if you want to read it for your first time, please jump on the Hey Mods thread (Parents side) and help us get it back. Thanks.

My son (sophomore) moved back into his cozy dorm yesterday. So grown up. And yet?

@cottonwood513: Marmots! That reminds me of the “llamas” thread, started by Hunt, raising the question, “How long do you need to post about raising llamas, llama wool, etc, until ads about llamas start popping up?” That happened right away. But I doubt we’ll get any marmot ads.

Cool, sluggbugg. Happy Birthday! I’ll bring some birthday candles with colored flames. I also have some leftover Elmo birthday hats–probably no takers on those, though.

Can I elbow in and get a birthday hat too? Saturday is Astrobirthday! I’ll be on a beach sipping something that has a little umbrella on it, and thinking of y’all. (Thanks for sharing, slugg—and happy b-day!!!)

Doin the happy birthday dance over here!! Happy happy day sluggie!
I can’t top SBmom’s gift (classic!) but my gift to you is a “kitchen pass”. You are hereby officially freed from having to visit any relatives who live in a smoke-filled double-wide for at least a year. Tell 'em I said so.

And a sidebar-- thank to all of you who chimed in to cottonwoods and others’ shameless begging-- the meta thread is baaack!!!
