Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

LOL, yeah let’s charge it to him! He still has to finish up his senior year though, so he’s not super wealthy yet. (His current bank balance is bigger than our though.)

Not too many details. He’ll be out at Mountain View and last summer he did incomprehensible stuff that “we wouldn’t understand if I was allowed to tell you.” Time issues and Linux is about all we know! I believe he’ll be working on similar things.

Things seen when moving my son into his dorm.

Everyone has seen parents (particularly mothers) working harder to set their kid’s room up then the actual kid. Even as we were leaving (after setting his room, after walking around campus, after lunch, after the bookstore we still saw parents where they were when we left the dorm - still setting up the student’s room, hours later. But, that’s nothing new.

What was new was what we saw on the way out of the dorm. We saw a father wearing his polo shirt and plaid shorts cutting custom shelving for his kid’s room. He was just out on the lawn, with a portable/battery-powered saw working away. Evidently, he bought the materials, then measure the exact size of the room and was now cutting to measure. Wow.

mathmom–he’s at one of the world’s best places to work! (My son is at the same company, in the NY office. Linux & whatever else, I can’t explain and can’t be told, anyway, until it’s released.) ;)

ctyankee–Wow indeed. I don’t know whether to be impressed or what. Kind of over the top in dorm room “decorating” but if you can engineer it, why not? :D

^those parents probably watched a little too much Home and Garden TV. :)

Mathmom and mommusic - I’m so excited for your Ss blossoming careers and hoping some of that mojo rubs off on my S!

raising my glass

We toured the campus briefly last summer and it looked great. Nice outdoor spaces, a vegetable garden, cool bikes, 10 different kinds of cereal and other goodies to nosh on…

Ctyankee, that is certainly not my unhandy husband!

lilmom invited me back over; hope y’all don’t mind. :)

Cheers, everyone. I raise my little plastic cup of Nyquil in toast. I think it will be the first of many this weekend. :(

I saw manitori was headed over here. I’m an infrequent visitor but wanted to celebrate taking freshman ds to college this week. No tears by anyone. I feel this was quite a feat and would like a Long Island Iced Tea.

Congrats to mathson! It’s nice out here:).

mantori, may I suggest a hot toddy?

Youdon’tsay, it’s nice that someone had a tear-free delivery that didn’t involve pushing the kid out of the moving vehicle onto a pile of luggage!

Thanks, lilmom, a hot toddy is an excellent idea. I am just miserable today. The only spirit we have is gin, and I’ve never had one made with gin—always used rum or whiskey—but why not? Off I go to mix one up!

When I looked into the Alley just now, mantori’s post (above) was at the top of my page.

Not having read the several posts preceding it, I thought Mantori was commenting on a birth ( “tear” as in rip, related to, er, episiotomies) until I got to the moving car and the pile of luggage…

:D

Oh, my! Thanks for the laugh. The gin hot toddy that I’m enjoying right now made your post even better.

Come to think of it, my mother may have delivered me that way. It would explain a lot.

I will think of your posts, Mafool and Mantori, as I deliver my S tomorrow (to college, that is.) ;)

Ds’s delivery to college was both tear-free, as in no crying, and tear-free, as in they didn’t have to tear me away from his dorm room or anything.

Mathmom, Same with our’s.

We are doing cost shifting. He wants/needs Iphone. We don’t and are on Verizon. He said he’d pay for the new cell phones and monthly costs. :)

We also told him that we’d pay for LTC insurance as long as we can afford it. After which the policy will be transferred to him and he would pay - either the insurance cost or we live with him in our old age. :)

Only child. Only son immediate family. Heir to the name. Keeps it good. He could get it all. IF, he keeps it clean, healthy, and fund his own health insurance, retirement, and play funds.  :)

Now if only he’d find some GF’s. 00)

Toasts to Mathmom and Mathson.

“Now if only he’d find some GF’s. 00)”

And if only we could do some cc matchmaking, I’m sure us parents would do a great job…but our kids would say, forget it!

Plus, the name Mrs. Youdon’tsay Suzuki just doesn’t have a nice ring to it.

I always had mantori.suzuki and samurai Landshark paired in my head. PRobably associated it with a suzuki samurai. They are forever paired in my head! LOL

Hey, best vehicle ever, why not?

Suzuki Samurai would be a great name for a band. Actually, lots of CC user names, by themselves or in combination, would be great names for bands, in my opinion.

Quiet place. Does the jukebox work? These pretzels are stale. Gimme a Coors Light.
