Big yay for BBdau and mommusic dau!!! Big day for the ladies!!

BB…it’s five o’clock somewhere! Congrats, you must be and should be so proud!

Awesome BB! What a great way to start off the new year!

Congrats BB! Wonderful news!

BB
triple blessings–for DD, D’s hubby, and the proud parents!!

Congrat to Mommusic’s dtr" MA!!!

I almost hesitate to mention this, as ya’ll will be jealous and probably try to find where I live.

DH celebrated 30 years at his company today. They had a nice luncheon and gave him a bottle of 30 year old Talisker single malt scotch! We’ll try it tonight.

Sorry I can’t bring it into the Alley to share…hope it’s as good as it is rumored to be!

I can smell that wonderful scotch through cyberspace! Enjoy and congratulations to your dh.

Big pot of chili is on the stove to ward off the latest predicted ice and sleet. Not sure what to serve with it so thought I’d pop in here for suggestions?!

We’re having chili too! In answer to your question…corn bread.

Ooh Talisker is a tad peatier than I like, but still very good. Our favorite scotch at the moment comes from Orkney. (Highland Park -18 year).

With what to drink? Personally I like beer, though I think hearty reds work (syrah for example) and I think German fruity wines like a Riesling or Gewurztraminer can be pretty good and will stand up to it.

Mommusic, I have a cornbread in the oven! And, in our spare frig in the basement I found a case of Corona already chilled that I didn’t know was left over from the holidays. So. I’m all set. Drop by and pull up a chair!

Our favorite way to serve chili is with Frito’s in the bowl, add the chili and top with shredded cheese, chopped onions and sour cream. And I’ll bring some limes for the Corona, Bonnie.

OK, to report on the Talisker–peaty but VERY good. DH is enjoying it at this moment (I just had a couple of sips.) It’s “barrel strength” which means it’s 50% instead of 40%, so he put it over ice and it’s holding up nicely.

So is he. ;)

And about that cornbread…I sweetened it with molasses instead of sugar and it was so yummy! :)

Is this a preSuper Bowl party? I’m in! I’ll bring spicy hot wings!

mommusic, oh I DO love a good scotch.

I recall going through Duty Free at Heathrow and being overwhelmed by the Scotch Whiskey choices. Up came a demure woman of a certain age. Could she help me? Well, I asked, was she familiar with the selections? Next thing I knew, she was pouring thimbles of single malt right and left for me to taste. That was too peaty? Well you might like this…It was 11 am and I still had to find my plane. I stopped after 4 or 5 samples (!), much to her surprise, and bought something good (don’t remember what it was).

Cheers to you and your husband!

my goodness this thread has been quiet. I just heard about Caltech’s basketball team winning a game and thought I’d come & lift a glass to the team.

Just finished putting together our tax documentation to submit for IDOC. We are self-employed so it was 50 pages of stuff. Did I mention I had to put S’s SSN on every page?

Bartender, Cosmo, please.

rom828–you certainly deserve a Cosmo, and our sympathy.

Last week I had to assemble a care package for the IRS…something to do with 2009 taxes. Blech. I wanted a celebratory drink just for getting the stuff together but think I will hold off until we see if they like what we sent them.

When I had to do this, before I made copies or printouts, I first printed S’s name and SS number on the top of a pile of blank paper (using a printer, not by hand), then printed or copied over top of those. Guaranteed it to be be legible, too.

TGIF! Where’s my Guinness?

notrichenough - and where were you when I was doing this at noon??..:)

rom828- we were both self-employed when DS was in college. I feel your pain and I would like to order a double for you. Give me your keys please; I’ll call a cab.
