Does anyone else think it's sketchy that forty something year olds, so called "parents" roam these forums frequently?

Like, no offense, but don't adult "parents" have better things to do than go into forums full of teenagers discussing "highschool" things?

It just boggles my mind that any adults would join this site at all. Maybe they care, but isn't it still really sketchy that they would join an online forum rather than go talk with actual experts?

No sketchier than the fact that we don't even know if any of the people claiming to be teens are actually teens... or people at all. LOL. I say, maybe there is something better for parents to do with their time, but at least they (seem to be) honest about who they are. Some of them are very helpful, too -- and they are far more polite than most of the other CCers. :)

Well, actually, I've rarely seen a parent posting in the high school life forum. If you meant CC in general, CC isn't just for high schoolers, it's for anyone that has to deal with college admissions and the things that come with them. Then there's the forums for groups to congregate in...we've got the high school forum, college students have the college life forum, and the parents have the Parent forum and parent cafe, and everyone has the general cafe.

parents are actually some of the most helpful posters around. I mean people like northstarmom ( i think thats her username, can't remember right now) give out tons of info. Optimizerdad is awesome helping out with math problems,. There are tons more of parents out there willing to share their experience with you, their usernames jsut don't come to my mind right now, so yeah...if thats sketchy I guess the whole purpose of CC is skecthinnes.

Most parents are really helpful and I like being able to learn from their experience. However, there is an older guy that has no kids but still posts a lto that seems super sketchy to me.

The reason why many parents are on here, as said above, is for advice for their children (who probably arent as motivated as us... who love to roam around here at CC) who are.. or should begin to prepare for college. It's for them. The parents are just trying to help. =)

I agree, they really really help, with anything, math problems, college dilemmas, and I'm glad they're here because they give you (well me at least) much much more info than I could get from GC or anyone at my school or even home. They're also a lot more reliable than some of the other "kids". And not every parent lives a very hectic lifestyle. . . most of their kids are already in college so they just give helpful tips, and guess what . . my dad first told me about this site, because he knows that he couldn't tell me what other people can tell me (especially from parents).

Although the advice many of the parents on here provide is helpful, I do agree that it's a little weird that they spend their time posting on a college website, especially the overzealous parents who talk about how "we applied" and "we want"... I mean I guess it's nice that they're so involved in an important part of their son/daughter's life, but we're the ones who will be going to the college we choose, not them.

yeah, i agree its a bit weird...overzealous, i should say. like the parents who are always here and posting stuff and opinions, thats kinda weird. i mean, dont they have something to do? especially the ones on the high school forum. if they are concerned about college for their kids shouldnt they be on the college forums?
