Skidmore Admissions Stats

According to today's NY Times web site.

2011: Applied: 5,770 Admitted: 2,411 41.79%

2010: Applied: 6,044 Admitted: 2,846 47.09%

Note slight increase in apps, large drop in admissions. I would think they are hoping for a high yield.

If I am remembering the numbers correctly from the welcome speech to parents of incoming students, last year’s freshman class was about 180 students larger than Skidmore had expected, a combination of a high yield and a low “melt”, or loss of committed students over the summer. The school handled this situation by adding additional Scribner Seminars, putting lots of first years into enforced triples, and hiring additional faculty. My son was lucky enough to have a double room, not a triple, but he was one of the exceptions in the class.

My guess is that the acceptance rate is down because they don’t want to repeat this scenario for the class of 2015.
