We are from East Islip and my S is planning on majoring in chemistry! He absolutely fell in love with Skidmore. It was his first of a dozen interviews. He also went to Union on the same day to tour and interview. He never applied to Union. Just got bad vibes and an unfriendly impression from the head of admissions. It was a long road that’s thankfully over. He can’t wait to go to the senior visit day in April for accepted students.

i’m from manhattan!

Accepted!!! Can’t wait to meet up in the fall!!

@lala555 … Congratulations! A great school. Hopefully we all meet in April!
Well done!

I’m soo excited!! Hope to meet you all! Does anyone know whether or not your financial aid package is likely to change after FAFSA? I am very satisfied with the package they gave me and I hope it doesn’t change

My son is a freshman at Skidmore. His Skidmore Grant actually got a little bigger when all was said and done. You won’t find out the final number until June when you get the actual bill, that made us nervous, but it all worked out well! He LOVES Skidmore, congratulations!

My son is thinking of applying. I am concerned about the scholarship and grant for financial aid. Did you feel they were somewhat generous or no? We wouldn’t get any state money only merit and possible grant money if the school gives any. Just curious if anyone knows anything regarding the financial part of this school.

Thank you jamiecl! I am happy that your son is enjoying his freshman year…
@Madeline12 - I found my financial aid award to be very generous…
I got $32,790 in grants, $2,000 for work study, and $5500 in loans.
Skidmore does a very good job in trying to meet your need compared to other colleges I feel.

@dglass95 sorry for sounding uninformed regarding financial concerns; can you please explain “grants”. Is this as a result of FAFSA or merit based? My S is applying for what appears to be the only merit based award at Skidmore that he is eligible: The Porter Science and Math scholarship . Can you shed some light regarding other grants we may not be be aware. Thanks!

@oura54 - grants are like scholarships but are based on financial need rather than academics, unlike merit scholarships.

They are a result of FAFSA and/or CSS Profile

Thank you for the information regarding grants.

hey guys, first of all CONGRATULATIONS to those accepted! I’m applying to Skidmore RD as an international. Could you please post your stats?

Actually, this is not entirely correct. The CSS Profile is very important, but so are your child’s stats. My D was an extra high stat kid for Skidmore so her first year financial aid package was held to make sure they could make a strong offer.

This is important to know as in subsequent years the FA offer was good, but not great. When we made it clear that she could complete her education elsewhere, her FA was adjusted. This was my least favorite thing about Skidmore. They are more revenue-oriented than some schools–and fairly inept. The sooner you understand this, the better you can help position a student.

For me this was all very tiresome, but necessary so she finished school with a reasonable loan amount.
