Skidmore is now test optional

Skidmore is now test optional - is anyone applying test optional this year? Thoughts?

OOh that interesting to hear. I just started looking into this school but I think I will apply test optional because why pay to send my scores when I don’t have to.

I am submitted my early decision application and did it without my test scores.

@BeaconInferno , um, it’s not that simple. Think about not sending in scores based ON THE SCORE, not based on the marginal cost of sending in the score.

Test optional is not a simple topic. It’s there, it’s real and it’s best used, in my personal estimation, for two types of applicants: (1) hooked applicants w/ low scores, and (2) unhooked applicants with low scores and very solid transcripts (the classic ‘mis-match’ applicant which almost everyone knows will do well in school and for whom the test score is an outlier in the pile of information.

Said another way, before deciding to not submit, (a) make sure you are clear that your score would likely hurt you and (b) make sure that you have something else that makes you a strong applicant.

For a lot of applicants, the score is a boost for other items that are lacking.

But to say you’re not sending it in to save $60 or whatever it is makes little sense.

@MiddleburyDad2 I live in an extremely low income house. You do not get to decide what is marginal to me.

@BeaconInferno ok pal. good luck.

@BeaconInferno You may want to check into fee waivers for low income applicants.

@BeaconInferno Judging from your reply to MiddleburyDad2’s excellent advise, I’d say you’re probably going to want to pass on any interview too.
