Skipping classes

What benefit(s) are to be gained by using AP credit to pass out of a class? Specifically, I will be majoring in engineering, and I took Calculus AB Junior year and made a 5. Senior year, however, the BC class that I took was terrible, less advanced than the AB class I took. For this reason I'm afraid that I won't remember enough of Calculus 1 to skip it, so I was planning to retake it despite having made a 5. I fear this will somehow disadvantage me among my fellow engineering majors.

how would this disadvantage you? Apart from the fact that we judge those who take intro classes

kidding. I took all my intro classes (didnt get any transfer credit the way my school system worked). It was review for the most part. And a chance for a good grade.

If you dont feel 100% competent, then take the class. Its the best decision for you that way

Re-take the class if you need to. I wouldn’t give a “HOOT” about what your fellow E-peers think and they won’t care either. (Sorry, couldn’t resist a little Sammy humor…)

Yeah it doesn’t hurt to take the intro classes. If you decide to take it and later you feel like you already know all the material you can always drop the class.

I made a 4 on my ap calculus tests, but decided to start at cal 1 when I entered college. I believe this was a great decision. It gave me more practice, which isn’t bad considering how much you’ll be needing calculus before you graduate and possible after. Also many things became much more clear the second time around - especially the underlying concepts of integration. In addition it gave me a lot of confidence while I adjusted from easy high school level work to college level work.

I will admit that some homework assignments will drive you crazy because they’re tedious rather than difficult, but it was still worth it. Also consider how much calculus you’ve done lately. If you haven’t touched any since you took your ap test in the spring, it will take a little extra time to remember ideas and recall how to do certain things you will need.

Another option is to consider doing an honors calculus sequence if it’s allowed. You would be at an obvious advantage already knowing calculus well, but I would imagine it’s still very challenging.

It probably says something about my quality as a student that this is not what I thought you meant when you titled this thread “Skipping classes”.

Haha yeah that was not an accident; I wanted to get a good amount of views to increase the probability of a good response.

@Dorian: same here.

haha. i was like *** at first.

OP - guess it worked
