My best friend and I are both applying to William & Mary, and I would really appreciate it if you could chance us. I won't go into too much detail, but we are Caucasian males :/ haha

My friend:
29 ACT, 3.75 gpa, top 10%?, 2 letters in varsity tennis, has played piano for twelve years and won numerous awards (he's great!), 5 AP classes, Arkansas Governor's School, Boys State, president of Beta Club, prospective majors in Government and East Asian Studies (Global Studies)

Me:
33 ACT, 3.93 gpa, top 5%, 4 letters in varsity tennis, 4 years of All Region & All State Choir for Bass II, 7 AP classes (calculus will kill me), Arkansas Governor's School, Boys State, president of National Honors Society, Captain of Quiz Bowl Team & member all four years, SHS HOBY ambassador, prospective majors in History and Russian Studies

I hope we will have an edge being from Arkansas! :)

I was also wondering, people often say William & Mary is a bit of a pressure cooker. Is it really difficult to maintain a high gpa in all disciplines or mainly the sciences? We are both looking into law school or grad school, and we want to make sure our schools won't kill us. lol I know it is about the amount of work put into it, and I don't want an "easy" school; however, I want to make sure it is more than feasible to make great grades. Thanks!!

I’d say you are a better lock in than your friend although you are both pretty competitive.

Being from Arkansas actually has 2 flip sides

Positive: Geographical diversity
Negative: MUCH, MUCH more competitive. If you were both in-state, you’d have a 90% of getting in. Now I’d say 70% chance.

Good luck though I’m sure you’re in and if not, theres plenty of other colleges.

We both took the ACT this past time. My friend thinks he might have made a 31, and I feel like I stand a good chance of getting a 34. Would these scores boosts increase our chances by a good degree?

W&M is academically challenging but no one is admitted who is not up to the challenge. Those students who want to attend W&M generally don’t want to cake walk through college. The intellectual academics are part of the appeal. A pressure cooker however it is not. There’s little if any academic competition among students. Students study together, share notes, etc and professors are very open to working with any students who feels he/she needs assistance.

Additionally, most W&M students are accepted into grad school and those who apply to law school are accepted at rates 15-20% higher than the national average. W&M’s reputation is very well known among graduate schools and employers and thus graduates are very successful.
