Hello All! I’m looking for private and smaller schools with very strong and reputable engineering programs, with good ties with companies for job searching. I think schools labeled “very selective” are too far out of reach for me but “selective” and “mildly selective” would be great.
Manhattan College is an excellent one.
Rose-Hulman should meet your criteria.
Union
I second Rose-Hulman.
Another option is RPI, which also has an excellent reputation among employers for engineering.
Valparaiso University
Marquette University
Both have excellent, newer facilities.
Good recommendations above.
Stevens Institute, WPI, and Clarkson might be three other schools also worth looking at.
RPI, mentioned above, is “most selective” and has among the highest SAT scores in the country, so not what you are asking for.
Union could work, but is still quite selective. Trinity (CT) is another option along these lines.
Clarkson has solid enigeering programs and could be fully in your range.
More not named above:
Cooper Union
Illinois Institute of Technology
Kettering University
Milwaukee School of Engineering
What about smaller publics?
Colorado School of Mines
Michigan Technological University
Missouri University of Science and Technology
Montana Tech
New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
South Dakota School of Mines and Technology
(Note that the last three are relatively low cost, even for out-of-state students.)
I second Rose-Hulman, also Olin, Harvey Mudd, IIT have very strong and reputable programs. I’d have to disagree with Valparaiso University and Marquette University for engineering. They may be good schools overall especially Marquette, but I would not put them in the very strong and reputable category when it comes to engineering.
The OP stated “schools labeled “very selective” are too far out of reach for me”. That would include Cooper Union (15% acceptance rate), Mudd (13% acceptance rate) and Olin (12% acceptance rate).
Try using the supermatch functions on the left (under find a college).
Santa Clara.
Villanova
What state do you live in, and do you have any geographical constraints or preferences? Any financial limitations? Also, if you are male, be sure and check out the male/female ratios at the schools that you look at, because they can be very lopsided (if that might be a concern).
Look at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Here is a website that might help you identify some additional schools: http://best-engineering-colleges.com/
I’ll second Illinois Institute of Technology.
My home state is oregon. Not good for engineering! And I’m female. I’d prefer not to be all the way on the east coast but if there is a school I’d like I’d definitely do it
Do you want an “engineering school” or a “school with engineering?”
As long as the engineering school is very strong, reputable, and would send me off to be a hirable and desirable job applicant
I can see how my question was unclear to you. Would you prefer an engineering focused college or a college that may have a broader curriculum (assuming the engineering program is of high quality in either case)? Or do you truly not care?
