Which type do you prefer and why?

Large public...

I came from a big HS, so size didn't bother me. Also tend to have better greek systems, more likely to have D1 sports (I can't imagine what fall is like without football games to attend), greater variety of majors/oganizations/opportunities, cheaper (even if from out of state). The schools I was looking to at the time were all in much better locations for me (actual cities and away from home but not too far - between 1-3 hour drives - easibly doable for a weekend), then if I had gone to a small private school.

You could always find a medium sized private, or a large private, and a medium sized public (to mix things up a bit).

Medium-sized public. I always wanted a very traditional collegiate atmosphere with sports games televised on ESPN, Greek parties on the weekends, tons of school spirit, and a student body big enough for me to meet new people all four years. So for me, public was really the only way to go. I looked at many of the top publics, including Michigan, Berkeley, Texas, and UNC, but UVA was definitely the most collegiate and just felt absolutely perfect to me. :)

I'm going to a mid-sized public, that's what I felt was right for me. 26,000 total (including grad students) sounds better than 40,000-50,000.

What numbers mark the distinction between small, large, medium?

DRab, according to collegeboard.com...
Small (fewer than 2,000 students)
Medium (2,000 - 15,000 students)
Large (more than 15,000 students)

That's a pretty good estimate, but some people might consider 10,000 too small for them... while another person might think that's huuuuge. I think, in the end, it's a matter of personal taste.
