So today I got my scores back from my January SAT and I made a score of 1990.
The breakdown:
CR: 590
M: 660
WR: 740 11 essay
I had a forty point decrease from my 2030 that I earned in October, the drop came from my CR and M score (ironically I was prepping alot for this area). Even more sad…there is no superscore so there was no progress made at all. But needless to say I am proud that I made it thus far with the SAT. Going from a 1200 to my dream of passing the 2000s to a 2030…I’ve done what I was most after.
But now the question is that will my score drop have a large effect on college admissions? I wasn’t planning on IVY or other out of state colleges. I just planned on these three of being my main ones: GA Tech, UGA, and Emory.
I had really planned on getting acknowledged by Emory but with a score drop and since I’m Asian I guess I don’t have a chance of getting accepted. I could try for new SAT or ACT but that would be crazy since January was my third and final take on college prep tests. The plan is to focus on AP exams now so hope that goes well…
I’m sorry for rambling on and on like this on a CC post. I kind of want to be assured by others (since at home I have already disappointed my parents) but also an answer to the question that I seek. Thank you! ^^
When you take the SATs, they generally tell you that the score you got is plus or minus 40-50 points your total score potential. I think that means that you may have gotten say a 1950 on this one SAT but you are also equally likely to get either a 1910 or a 2010 on another SAT based on the difficulty of that test. So I doubt that having a little decrease in your SAT score will have a huge effect on admissions. The admissions board knows that your SAT score is prone to slide up and down based on each test. So I say don’t worry about it! Just focus on the other aspects of your college application.
Good luck and good job on bringing up your SAT score to the 2000s!
Can’t you do score choice and send only the best score? Or are the schools to which you are applying require all scores sent?
@mamaedefamilia They prefer to see all scores that I have sent each time I take the SAT, but I worry that the 1990 I made on my third try will have an effect even though my 2030 (second try) is my only highest score. The colleges say they base it off on the highest score on each section so I hope my 2030 will be recognized as my ability for “college readiness” and not the decrease of 1990.
@HappinessXOX The difference between 2030 and 1990 across three sections is not all that great - even if there is a certain symbolic weight to a 2000+ score. I don’t think anybody will judge you for a drop in 40 points and are likely to consider your best score.
Good luck to you!
