Smart vs Popular

Smart people know that they can't go thru life w/o any social grace whatsoever. They eventually realize this (most in college), and thus become more social. Brains thus beats popularity.

I'm both smart and popular.

that's a good balance

lol my avoidance of the party scene at my school kinda damned me to the popularity basement...

I get along with all the people I actually have classes with though...

The two are not mutually exclusive... You need to change your defintion of "popular." Don't go by what MTV/etc. defines "popularity" as. Being "popular" merely means you that most people think highly of you.

There are no popular kids in my school and there are very few smart kids.
I like the fact that no one can say that they know everyone at my school. But I don't like that there are so few smart kids in doesn't give me a challenge.

i guess i'm a bit of both. i'm contend with the way i am. i think it shouldn't be too leaning to one way or another, because if u're smart only, then u basically won't have any memorable moments, but if u're too popular with no intelligence, what will u do in the future? charm random strangers?
and i agree with what Nick017 said. that's the way to go

well the "smart" kids at my school are a mix of super-nerdy (stereotypical image) and popular (as in you wouldn't expect them to be so smart based on the way they act -sorry, judgmental here- but they are). but since there's no one established Popular Group, just a lot of cliques. if you want to define popularity as having a lot of friends the super-nerds are actually pretty popular b/c there are so many of them. & i'm just slightly anti-social so while i'm definitely not "popular," i wouldn't say intelligence had anything to do with popularity.

I'm considered smart, and most of my friends are all the ambitious, honors-and-AP kids too. I'm certainly not popular in the conventional drunken-parties-and-many-boyfriends way, but I'm totally okay with that since I'm socially low-maintenance and don't deal well with drama. I think I'm well-known because of the whole class rank thing and rarely disliked, although I'm afraid my reputation for intelligence is overinflated. Overall, I'm more-or-less where I'd like to be. And I like hyphens. A lot. Fragments too.

the best thing to be is be smart and be social and be a leader in your school. if your smart and on asb or in elected leadership at your school thats the best. "popular" is too generic. if by "popular" you mean the traditional old school definition then i guarantee anyone who posts on these boards would prefer the smarts over that.

If by popular you mean well liked and respected, I would still choose smart, but by a much smaller margin than popularity as in the superficial highschool kind :)

Minority here, but I would much rather be "well liked and respect" (if that's your definition of popular) than smart. Intelligence is so relative.

I would like to be smart and well-liked.

I'm in the middle. I'm not super smart, but I'm pretty well-known. People are honestly surprised that I know the people I know because when you're "up there" intellectually, not average smart but CC smart, they assume you have no life.

It's fun to win awards/superlatives and have people be like, "WHAT?!" because they highly underestimate my social circle.
