Are there any jazz ensembles? I love playing jazz, it'd be awesome if they had one.

There's a jazz ensemble, and there used to be a student jazz band called the Pink Nomads who were really good.

Though to be honest with you, Jazz isn't really the orchestral specialty at Smith. I'm sure there are some good student groups (or you could start one), but the college ensemble isn't much to boast about. The Orchestra is somewhat better, but obv. not your preferred style.

Is there anybody knows if Smith College Music Department records students recitals? My Ds minor is music and we would love to watch any of her recitals.

Can we buy a CD or is there a site we can access and watch students recitals?

I don't know for sure, but I don't believe that they record just the regular recitals. i know that some of the ensemble groups, chorus for example, do recordings of their major concerts.

Of course, if you'd like to see a recital, maybe you should give your D a digital camcorder for her going away present. She could have a prof or a friend record the recital for you and post it up to YouTube straightaway. Heck, she could probably make a business out of it, recording other people's recitals and posting them for parents.

That's a good idea. Maybe she can start a business on campus and raise funds for charities. I will be the firts to buy. :)

Thanks!

I know there are some CD's for some performances. Don't know if they record all of them. I have the Orchestra's Fall 2004 concert and Spring 2002 at Carnegie Hall CD's at hand...I've seen others for sale.
