S'mores vs. Banana Split

Can someone please give me some advice? On the one hand, s'mores are crunchy, gooey and have that nice melted chocolate, but with the banana split, you get more flavors and a piece of actual fruit. It's a hard decision to make. I'd love to hear what your experiences are with these desserts or if you know someone who has eaten one of them, what did that person think?

personally i think that the fudge sunday is better than both of these.

i will be having the fudge sunday

smores vs. bana split

that's easy: smoresplit!! haha jk i presonally like s'mores better :)

I want the one that most people want. I know I will have to wait in line longer, and there might not be any left, but it would be best to have the most popular treat!

Well, I want the one that is given to the fewest people. If only 5 people can have s'mores, but 15 people are given the banana split, then obviously s'mores is a better choice. I will have to consult various dessert rankings to see which is hardest to obtain, and ONLY THEN will I make my choice.

I guess I should have given you my stats first.

Right-handed, but I can use a spoon with either hand
No cavities and brush frequently, so sugar isn't a problem
Lactose-tolerant

It really depends on your long term goals. If you are a DQ person your choice will be very different than, say, a Ben & Jerry's.

banana spilt, all the way.

Clearly, both are delicious treats so you can’t go wrong with either choice. That said, you have to remember to choose the one that’s right for you--the right “fit”. You said that you can use a spoon in either hand and that sugar and lactose are not an issue. OK, but did you research the fat and calories of these two classic treats? Maybe you are looking to lose or gain a few pounds and therefore the banana split maybe the better choice. Is the banana split maker willing to work with you to meet you needs, perhaps willing to substitute fat free, sugar free ice cream for premium?

Either way, congratulations! These are excellent choices to have. There are many kids who do not have the luxury of choosing desserts. Choose wisely after careful research. Consult with a dietician if necessary but don’t forget to listen to your gut! Good luck!

BTW, in case you could infer my bias, I should tell you my D chose the banana split last year. She loves strawberries with premium ice cream! She is very happy with her decision and plays sports each season to balance the extra calories.

While my D was initially interested in S'mores, because she can't stand bananas, I convinced her to have a second look. It's hard to trust kids this age because they don't always have a clear perspective on what is REALLY important down the road in life. I feel as a parent, I should be offering her more guidance. She can learn to like bananas if she is exposed to them often enough.

That being said, in the end we both agreed on Tiramisu, which, although not available in the New England area, has a charming, elite cachet all its own.

In sum, I think people should remain open minded.

My problem is that I promised D she could apply not only for s'mores and splits but also for a whoopie pie (I know, it was a weak parenting moment). However, I said that if accepted she could have it only if she got FA. She didn't, and the extras add up - whipped cream, nuts, matches, stick, etc. Will she feel left out if she's the only one without a maraschino on top? What if everyone else is using Godiva and Toblerone and she has to use those awful Hershey bars? I don't want her to feel second class.

I'm really torn. The opportunities presented are amazing, but I grew up with Hood ice cream sandwiches from the back of the freezer with the "protective ice coating" on them, and I turned out okay.

I like a banana split but with only hot fudge and vanilla. You can keep your wet nuts, your pineapple, your chocolate ice cream and whatever that is on the end.

Create your own experience...order off the menu!

Oh man, that's easy. Smores all the way.

wait... is this like some metaphor for two schools or is this just like a random board? if it's not a metaphor... definitely s'mores..

haha, that's what I was wondering. I think it's poking fun of the decision boards.

I hope I don't offend you, but I considered some of the other choices out there, especially tiramisu, but they're tier 2 in my book. I could consider them "safety" desserts, I guess.

Thanks for the suggestion to look into the calories and fat content, too. I hadn't considered all the factors that go into this decision.

Marshmallows may make my hand sticky, therefore restraining me from eating more while looking classy. I HATE BANANAS. THEY ARE THE DEVILS FRUIT!!

So i would go with the creme brulee.

Although Tiramisu may be tier 2, and I am not saying it is, I think it is a more well rounded choice and one that speaks to the "whole person" and not just one dimension.
What a s'mores does it does well, don't get me wrong. In certain contexts it is clearly the best thing to have, and all the ingredients required for a tiramisu may seem just like frou-frou extras. And then again, with the coffee and rum component, tiramisu is probably for a more mature eater.
Keep an open mind, and don't decide until you re-taste. You may find that what originally drew you to dessert is not as important to you now that the decision is at hand.

At certain schools, most notably those that begin with "Saint", the bananas have to be sliced cross-ways so that they present as disks and not, well, obelisks.

I'm really trying to be open-minded and I guess I should just have a re-taste and see what really seems best to ME. It's just that my parents don't really agree, either. My mom is really in favor of s'mores, while my dad is a real fan of the banana split. Also, my best friend is probably having s'mores, too.

Thanks for sharing the interesting fact about the banana slicing.
